There are no longer any buildings there, but there is a beautiful graveyard and the spirit of history here.
A few miles off the highway on the north side, check this area out. Make sure your vehicle is fit for the drive. Awesome hills before dropping down to the old film site area.
We have been exploring out here for years. This year we stumbled upon part of the McKenna's Gold movie set. I'm sure we will continue exploring this area. I love the history of this place.
No, there is no more "movie set" per se...Yes, the area is stunning !The access is quite easy, and you won't be disappointed, especially at sunset !You can have a good sense of the beauty of the place in less than 1 hour : It's free, no permits needed, it's not crowded... So don't miss it ! :)
i did not come for the old film set but for the colorful hills ... its the perfect spot for some night photography - no light pollution and quiet ... the sky shows all the stars ! not many people stay later than sun set so i guess you will have the place for you !the BBQ sets are good enough .. great place to have a view drinks and some good steak ! We found perfect filet cuts in the kanab grocery store .. unbelievable quality for small money
This is not the old paris movie set anymore as 10 years ago some vandals torched the few wood buildings that were there originally. Now it looks like an abandoned place and you will be looking for the history. There is a small cemetery still there which has some local history to it.
We didn't make it all the way to the old film set or the old town, but the view of the canyon is still worth the drive. You have to be cautious of the dirt road, I was able to make it about 3.5 miles down the road before I stopped with my small car. I would recommend 4WD to make it all the way to the film set or the town. We still made it far enough down the road to get a good view of the canyon walls. It's worth a quick trip if you're driving between Kanab and Page. There is a small parking area on the north side of 89 and the dirt road leaves from there.
While on a tour of the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument, our guide took us to an area in Paria which not once, but twice, housed the movie sets from many old-time western classics. Apparently the local youth, bored with defacing petroglyphs from early American frontiersman, turned their energies toward destroying these irreplaceable movie sets. They torched the original sets which were, eventually, painstakingly recreated by local artisans and other volunteers. Two weeks following completion of the movie sets, the local idiots burned down the recreations. The guide said there were no plans by the community to attempt another rebuilding. (More about this will be posted under Kanab's Little Hollywood Movie Museum).
Drove the long wining road to look at was old movie sets. Nothing there really. Just a picture of what used to be. It is a pretty drive though.
Off the beaten path. Very pretty and scenic with a lot of history. Great place to take photos, but you really need a guide to point out some of the history. The old town has been burned down and BLM won't let it be rebuilt.
It takes you back to Paria's old movie days. You'll see where the old cowboys stood and shot all the bad guys. Google it for latest info and to be sure noone has destroyed any of the set. People do weird things out in the wild. It's an interesting place to see.
The "town" is located a few miles off the highway. We had a car as our rental, but could have seen more if we had a 4x4 SUV. Not really much to see since the movie set was burnt down. The colors of the rocks were pretty, but not really anything different than the surrounding sights from the highway. I wouldn't say it was a waste of time, just a shame someone burnt down the movie set.
Stoped to read market after couldn't. Do wire trail. We were able to drive decent. Dirt. Road with rut stopping us well past bathrooms. Then walked to creek. Again trails don't seem to be well marked with so as distance an that bathrooms are available. Didn't find any evidence of town. Except cemetery. The colours of rocks amazing.

If you like colors, this is the place to see. It is amazing! Go in the late afternoon when the sun makes to colors pop.
