Everywhere you look there is something to behold. The views are amazing, the wildlife is abundant, the facilities are immaculate, the staff is friendly. You can easily enjoy this park as a leisurely drive through the canyon, or spend a day or more and hike the many trails which dot the landscape. A note to those visiting from April-October the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is accessible by shuttle only.
Visited in early March and was treated to a wonderful sunny, blue sky day. Snow covered peaks contrasting with the rich red valley sides. Had very little time to explore but the pathway from The Temple of Sinawava to The Narrows was lovely. The scramble up the Canyon Overlook Trail is well worth it.Snow melt provided an unavoidable cold shower at one point.
We visited Zion National Park this past Monday on March 9 and although the park itself is absolutely beautiful with amazing scenery, just too busy and the scenic drive was a total zoo with all the traffic, packed parking lots and cars parked for miles on the sides of the roads and in some places, on the roads. The East Entrance Road was much better with a lot of beautiful places to stop and not near as busy. We can see why there is a shuttle service going in to the scenic drive as the area just does not have enough places to park to see all the attractions that the area holds. We only got to see a couple of them as there just was no place to park and this was shortly after 8:00 in the morning. We thought by going on a weekday this early in the season that it would be fairly quiet but wow, that sure was a mistake! We may venture back sometime in the future, but wouldn't bet on it as just too many people.
This was my first Southern Utah National Park visit. I have no words to express how beautiful Zion National Park is. Every turn we took, incredible!! Every hike was different and had new things to see. Love this. Get an early start in peak season.. or else you'll be waiting in a long line to get into the park!!
beautiful location, known world wide, bring a camera, friends and family. There is nothing not to like.
Driving through this park was a last minute decision so I admit we didn't spend near enough time there. however what I saw was breathtaking. Roads are a little congested but the park is spectacular and clean. I need to find time for a return trip!
We entered the park by the east entrance. Make sure to stop at the Canyon Overlook Trail, right before the tunnel. There is limited parking but the short 1 mile roundtrip hike provided beautiful views of the park. The trail was moderate and my 9 & 7 year old did the hike easily. We also did the Lower & Upper Emerald Pool Trails and the Riverside Walk to the start of the Narrows. All hikes were great! The kids also did the Junior Ranger program which they enjoyed. We were able to see a majority of the Zion Canyon in the 6 hours that we were there. Would have loved more time to explore Kolob Canyon.
Really beautiful park, with a lot of hikes for everyone. There were even some available for wheel chairs...The landscape was awesome and we even met two deers while walking to reach the Emerald Pools... :D
This is a gorgeous park with beautiful scenery and hikes. Worth the visit. You do need some time there, though, to see everything and do the hikes. We had one full day there and that was not enough, but we did get to do a few hikes and drive around to see some scenery. The on-site restaurant in the park is great as well. We had lunch there and the food was good and great service. The lawn in front of the lodge is beautiful.
Hiked emerald pools with 3 children, 4 y/o, 6 y/o and 8 y/o. Children had fun. Need good shoes. Small bag with water and visor.
Hiking and scenery paradise. Glad I stayed couple days. Hiked Canyon Overlook (recommended) Emerald Pools, 2/3 of Angel's Landing (because of ice at the top) and Riverwalk...all excellent hikes. Park offers something for every physical ability and age. One of God's masterpieces for sure!
Zion National Park is so beautiful with so many things to offer. Just the drive into the park is an experience within itself. The Visitors' Center has signs with suggestions of things to do if you only have one day in Zion (which sadly we only had one day), or if you have more time. We wanted to hike Angel's Landing but we were concerned about the length of the hike (we started late in the day). So we decided to the hike the Hidden Canyon Trail near Weeping Rock instead. I think it was a great compromise because it was still a workout, it still had great views and steep drop offs (for those who like adventure), but it only took two hours as opposed to Angel Landing's "suggested" four hour hike time. My only complaint about the park is that we went over President's Day Weekend so all the park fees were waived (which was awesome!), but the park was PACKED with people. We couldn't drive up to the trailheads for over an hour because the parking lots were full so the park staff had to close the road down until some guests left. The shuttle wasn't running while we were there, so perhaps things run smoother while it's working? Either way, Zion was an amazing experience! I can't wait to go back!
The drive on Rte 9 is spectacular. Be sure to allow the time to enjoy the many turn offs. And make sure your camera battery is fully charged. The hiking trails are excellent. You may see deer and other animals on your hike.
If you kids are used to the outdoors, and listen well to instruction that you can safely bring them on the Angels Landing hike. IF THEY DO NOT MEET THAT CRITERIA YOU SHOULD CHOOSE ANOTHER HIKE!!! I happened to hike Angel's Landing with my cousin and two of his children on the 5th busiest day of the year and there is NO WAY that I would do that again. I like my National Parks with less people in them. So, I suggest staying away the day after Thanksgiving. The views were stellar, the feat great, but if it hadn't been for some kind strangers and the impeccably well-behaved and fearless 9 and 11 year-olds I was with it would have been dreadful.
I didn't know what I was missing. The skiing wasn't good in Park City so we took a road trip to Zion. The temps were in the 60's which was unusual for the time of year. One of the most popular hikes in the area is the Angel's Landing hike that is 2.5 miles. The las half mile is along a ridge with chain link railings to hold onto as you ascend. The grit of the sandstone helps with footing. Keeping alert is a must. There is a sign at the beginning warning you that 6 people have died on this ridge since 2004. This last half mile is not for everyone and many people stop at the 2 mile mark. Probably for most, it is the challenge that is thrilling.
