We had already done the Queen's Garden/Navajo loop on a previous visit to Bryce Canyon and so thought we would get a different perspective from going deeper into the canyon. This is a very good walk, with very different views. However, even though we had looked at the profile on the NPS website, we hadn't appreciated how much elevation change there was, with the result that, when we were doing the final climb out of the canyon, I wasn't sure I would make it! It is definitely worth doing, if you have already done the Queen's Garden/Navajo loop, but don't underestimate it!
Although the hike was very dusty, the Peek-A-Boo Loop was a very enjoyable / memorable hike. I made this hike with my teenage daughter and son. We found the hike to be very challenging in a good way. There were a lot of interesting views that we got to enjoy along the way. If you are to go on this hike, I recommend taking plenty of water because you will need it.
Peek-A-Boo Loop is another great hiking option down in Bryce Canyon. It is much less traveled than Queen's Garden or Navajo Loop. The hike is a bit more strenuous due to undulating terrain, but the scenery can't be beat. We added this loop onto a hike including Queen's Garden/Navajo for an amazing Bryce experience. We did hike this after the horse rides which frequent this trail were done for the season, so it may not be quite a good if you choking down the dust of a long line of horses passing you.
We hiked this loop in late December and the trail was quite snowy and icy. There was almost no one else apart from me and two friends. The loneliness and the snow was an awesome combination, along with some really good views and photography spots. The hike was reasonably easy except the last one mile of uphill climb. But we faced heavy snowfall that slowed us down. When I look back though, it was really worth it.
After seeing the Grand Canyon and the antelope, we thought that was almost over, that nothing'll have impress us more then them... We were soo wrong!!Bryce is amazing, and this 5miles trail is a must! You can see the windows from the bottom e no viewpoint from the top will give you the same experience. Chew a gum e keep your mouth close in order to avoid dust hurting your throat
This hike is simply stunning. A must if you are a hiker. The terrain and the views are incredible and it is not super crowded like some of the other trails. This trail offers a wide variety and you see a lot of the beauty of Bryce Canyon continuously throughout the hike. It is a workout though. My husband and I are avid hikers and this was so rewarding. We had hiked Angel's Landing the day before, and while this trail was not nearly as dangerous, it was a much more difficult trail. My Fit Bit said we climbed 199 flights of stairs! Take lunch- there are several great places to stop for a bite. There is one restroom (pit toilet) along the trail. It was well used but clean.Don't miss out on this trail!
was a great ride. good mounts, beautiful sights, guides were good. I am not able to hike and doing the ride was a great way to see the loop
The hike is a bit challenging if you conclude with the clim to Bryce point but that is probably the best I did in the whole southwest!
Amazing scenery! It is a pity to just drive from scenic point to scenic point, if you really want to experience Bryce, you have go hiking and get down into the canyon. Beautiful! In the main season it's a good idea to get there early and avoid the crowds.
I would write more reviews, but serious , those who read this, do they really need 50 characters ? That was not even enough
My husband and I are avid hikers and we both think that the Peek-A-Boo Loop was the best hike we have ever done. Anywhere! We combined the Loop with two other hikes: we started from the Sunrise Point with the Queen's Garden Trail, connected to the Peek-A-Boo Loop, continued with Navajo Loop to the Sunset Point, and returned to the Sunrise Point via the Rim Trail. This combined trail was less than 7 miles long. Even though the NP site ranked this trail as strenuous, it did not feel hard at all. The trail goes up and down, so your legs never get too tired. The views along the entire trail are unbelievable. Every time you turn the corner, there is yet another absolutely stunning view! Unlike other trails which are destination-driven (getting to a summit, waterfall, lake...), the entire Peek-a-boo trail is the destination. It was lovely to just linger on the trail and enjoy the views. It took us about 5.5 hours to hike the whole trail but only because we stopped constantly to take pictures.Take lots of water, sunscreen (and lip balm with SPF), and your camera!
This was our first time visiting Bryce Canyon National Park. We visited in late September, combining Zion Canyon National Park in our travels. We had read that Bryce Canyon could easily be visited in 1- 2 days; so we spent three days hiking Zion National Park and one full day/ night at Bryce Canyon. We first arrived to Bryce Canyon's visitor center to have questions answered about the hikes and get advice on the must see vista points. Based on previous Trip Advisor reviews, we had already planned to hike the "Figure 8 Combination", which includes the Queens Garden, Navajo & Peekaboo Loops. This hike can be started either at Sunrise or Sunset Points. If starting from Sunrise Point, you hike Queens Garden first, then the complete Peekaboo Loop and finish with part of the Navajo Loop, ending at Sunset Point. Or it can begin at Sunset Point, hike part of the Navajo Loop, then the complete Peekaboo Loop and finish with Queens Garden, ending at Sunrise Point. We began our hike at Sunrise Point.Recommendation: Bring plenty of water and snacks, wear a hat because there is not much shade during the hike and use hiking poles. The "Figure 8 Combination" hike consists of many steep elevations, both up and down. Hiking poles are very essential for this purpose. We began the hike descending down into Queens Garden trail. It was earlier in the day so it was not too hot. The views of the hoodoos are surreal. We felt we had landed on another planet! It actually reminded us of Thunder Mountain from Disneyland. We have never seen anything of this nature before. Queens Garden is a doable hike for most people, so it was a bit more crowded. Get an early start to avoid most crowds.Eventually we encountered a fork in the trail with a sign to continue to Navajo Loop. We were a bit confused, expecting instead a sign for the Peekaboo Loop. So we decided to follow the sign for the Navajo Loop, anticipating that we would eventually encounter the Peekaboo trail - which we did. The Peekaboo Loop (from Navajo Loop) can be hiked either starting left or right and is 5.5 miles long. We started the hike from the right based on previous reviews. We loved this entire trail! It is strenuous compared to the other trails, but only in the sense of the elevation changes. The views of the hoodoos and canyon are spectacular! We took our time so we could enjoy the vistas and take fantastic pictures. With very few hikers on the trail, it was tranquil and serene. There were multiple places to sit in the shade, have some snacks and enjoy the view. We eventually arrived back to the starting point of Peekaboo Loop and again, were a bit disoriented where to continue on to Navajo from there. But even if you are not sure, just continue on a trail and you will eventually encounter a sign. There appears to be more than one trail that will be labeled with a sign to lead you in the direction of either Navajo or Queens Garden. We of course took the direction of the Navajo Loop. Eventually, we encountered the loop and continued in the direction of "Wall Street" - heading left. Again, we felt like we were on an entirely different planet, hiking between "walls" of the canyon. It was absolutely beautiful. Since this trail leads back to Sunset Point, most of the hike was ascending within the walls on short switchbacks. It is much cooler which is a nice relief from the sun. The last amount of switchbacks are steep, so take your time.Once reaching the end of the hike at Sunset Point, you can wait for the free shuttle to take you back to Sunrise Point or hike the short walk along the rim - which we did.We are in our early fifties and are in reasonable physical condition. We highly recommend this particular hike and would do it again in a heartbeat! We will definitely come back to Bryce! One last tip: Enjoy the starry sky at night - it's incredible. But bring a flashlight because it is pitch dark! That evening, we drove to a vista point (Bryce Point) and laid ourselves down. We must have been there for at least 30 minutes admiring the Milky Way, billions of stars and witnessing a shooting star.
Thought the a Queens Gardens area was my favorite until I hiked this section. Am 67 years old and did it without problems so sure you can to.
My family and I did this walk whilst on our great USA tour. All 4 of us rated this walk as one of our top 3 highlights of our trip and we visited some great places such as Glacier and Yosemite National Parks. The peek-a-boo trail is simply magnificient. I've never seen anything like the landforms and colour in Bryce Canyon and the peek-a-boo trail takes you right down into canyon amongst the hoodoos. It's a must do if visiting the national park. Simply outstanding.
Best way to visit this trail is by horseback. The trip takes you from the top to the bottom of the canyon. Awesome trip. Not for the faint of heart.
