crockett tavern museum

This attraction offers a fun journey back in time. The tavern has recently been added to the National Historic Register. The log building is sort of tucked away and can be a little tricky to find. Kids of all ages will get a blast from a visit, not that any of them will remember Fess Parker's portrayal of an American hero. Friendly docents give an excellent presentation that will appeal to anyone with a love of history. The building and exterior grounds are picture perfect.

Our 9 yr old and 13 yr old history buffs loved the fact that this is a very hand ON museum. The volunteer staff did a wonderful job telling our family everything and giving a great tour.

While the building itself isn’t the original building, the location is original. The rebuilt tavern itself is interesting itself in its construction. The logs used to make the walls, floor and loft, were donated from other old period building, but none of this takes away from the atmosphere of the tavern. You get a good idea of what his life was like while he and his wife operated the tavern. The volunteer that day was very informative about Davy Crockett, and the tavern. I really enjoyed seeing that bit of history. One of the items they have there is a replica of one of Davy’s long rifle. I was able to hold the rifle and got a picture of. I had no idea how heavy one of those long rifles really, nor was I really sure of how long the rifle of that type were until standing next to one. I don't recall if there was fee.

We had gone to Morristown with our adult daughter and her 2 kids (13 and 10) because my husband is descended from Gideon Morris, the town's founder and namesake. We stopped here kind of on a whim. It looked small and we thought we'd pop in for a few minutes. Wow!! The docent (Sally?) knew everything, related information to Gideon Morris, engaged our reluctant 10 year old grandson by asking him what he thought items had been used for, and gave us an entertaining and interesting history lesson. $5 per person is a bargain! Do not miss this.

My cousin, Claude suggested that I go through Morristown on the way home. After a restroom stop at the credit union there ( I know that sounds weird) it was suggested we stop by Crockett Tavern Museum. We did. We had a wonderful, educated, animated and entertaining tour guide who, you can tell truly loves her job, and shows that to her it's more than a job. We learned a lot about Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!!! What are you waiting for? Stop by today!!!

This was a great place to visit. Our tour guide was very informative and had a great way of explaining life as it was in the time of Davy Crockett.

This little place is a gem for all ages. The lady who runs the place has a vast knowledge of the history of the Crockett family and the local area. The displayed items are interesting and so special to see and experience the way is used to be way...back...when! Pay attention to the times of operation and all or you may miss the place being open. A little out of the way from the Smoky Mountain area but well worth the effort..

Lots of history, everyone needs to remember Davy Crockett not just for TN, but USA history. It is a small wooden cabin with some small out buildings. It can be hot, although location is surrounded by big trees. Mild days or fall is best time, if heat bothers you. It has a lot more to offer than it looks like.

This is a great place for history buffs with the mall very close and food surrounding it. There is also a great geocaching spot at this site. Make sure you look hard enough!

At first sight, you might think there is not much here, but don't let first impressions fool you. There is a lot here and the guide was very informative and knowledgeable of the time period of the early 1800's.

How come no one mentions that its $5 a head to get in? We didnt take the tour because I was cheap and didn't want to spend money for our seven family members. Just looked around the grounds. Now I cross it off the bucket list. Now what am i going to do when I visit Morristown again? Ha.

I've taught history for 40 years, but learned much in my visit here. The docent (Sally?) was incredibly knowledgable and entertaining.

This was a great stop for an informative hour of real history. The lady guiding the tour really knew her stuff and made it interesting to kids and adults. Tea scraper??? A view of a time MUCH different than today.

Doesn't take long and is worth a quick stop. Walk through and you're done. Nothing interactive, but it does seem real.

This museam is historical based (not a touristy souvenier place). It's not a vast area, somewhat remote location near downtown, but very enjoyable. if you like history and historical events, this is definitely a must stop and visit location in Morristown, TN
