This golf course was very well-maintained with beautiful views all around. The greens were so challenging and fast. The employees were all pleasant, welcoming and helpful. It has plenty of snack food as well as a lovely restaurant with a nice view. If you're a golfer you will like playing this course!
Played Red Tail Mountain for the first time over the weekend. The course was in great shape. Lots of elevation changes and nice variety of holes. Still doing a lot of work in the fairway bunkers, but greenside bunkers were nicely done. Nice clubhouse and good food on the deck overlooking the course. A very pleasant, uncrowded golf experience at very reasonable prices.
They apparently moved the hole numbers around recently. The course ends with a tough few, very uphill holes which is the worst time for a few tired golfers trying to finish their round! HahaOne of the members of our group said the last few holes used to be a little less tasking before they moved the numbers around. In general though, this is a great mountain course. Plenty of insane elevated tees to hit from, great scenery, and the course wasn't too busy the day we played.Apart from the grumpy current club champion giving us negative looks all day (he also tried to pass us on the turn and didn't even seem to check where we were when we were on the blue elevated tee.), we had a great day on the course after playing 18 and then the front 9 again.Clubhouse is nice and has a great view. There was an issue with the city's main water break that shut down their bathrooms and the restaurant so we had to eat some pre-made sandwiches which were fine. Red Tail will be the first course on my list when I return to the mountains for another golf trip.
The food was wonderful, the view magnificent and the service was grand. We were constantly tended to. choice food was really great.
If you want a beautiful place to really relax with a beautiful mountain view and enjoy a good meal, come here. The new owners have done a great job and it's getting better all the time. Their Sunday brunch is a wonderful place after church and the atmosphere is just delightful, friendly service too.
New owners are leaving no stone unturned as they continue to renew & renovate what was already a great facility & course. Lots of activity here adding a new pool, tennis courts, new lodges, and even an exercise room: something for everyone! PLUS, it is all first class- no shortcuts here. The golf course is a true mountain course with several mountain views, challenging greens, & just down-right beautiful setting for what will soon be a world-class resort, including the restaurant & banquet facilities. A must see, even if you are not a golfer. Lodging is priced to compete with quality motels & hotels. When you come, be prepared to take it all in...and spend an extra night or two!!!
New ownership is making multiple changes to this entire facility, adding swimming, more lodges, tennis, exercise room and much more. Changes to the golf course include new sand in many of the traps and a significantly improved overall condition of the grassy areas. Still can be a bit wet after a night's rain, making walking necessary on several holes.Mountain golf is the joy that comes with this facility. Several of the other courses in the area, use the expression "mountain golf" for the 2 or 3 holes that have elevation change. Here you will find 11 holes will elevation challenges. The greens can be very tricky when the stimp is high. Pay attention to your line and pace of your putts.Very nice bar and restaurant complement your end of round golf.
The condo accommodations were quite upscale. The linens and bedding are better than anything I have ever enjoyed since staying at the St. Regis in Manhattan. The golf course is genuine mountain golf with amazing views but more importantly it is in great condition. The Director of Golf Sam Adams , is and former PGA TOUR Pro (and winner) and is very nice. Get their free app where Sam give tips on each hole. Vernon and Lynn Brady along with their staff treat you like family in the lodge - They are very proud of their kitchen and have every reason to be confident you will have a nice experience. Lyle Habermehl, RedTail's owner, is making the resort a family destination by adding a pool, tennis courts, a spa, improved practice facility and one more thing the free WIFI iS EVERYWHERE, FREE AND STRONG!!! This place ROCKS!!!!-Rich RushforthPinehurst, NC
Excellent well cared for course, difficulty is great and the views amazing!!! I would recommend anyone to try it at least once, because more than likely you will return again and again and again! Very Friendly staff
Seeing the great condition of this layout proves to me that the members who brag about Redtail are NOT exagerating!" Best kept secret in Tennessee"I'll be back.
Thank you for taking time to write a review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay, the food and golf. We are busy working on projects this winter including an indoor pool, tennis courts and rebuilding all the bunkers on the course. Look forward to having you back.
I am sorry you were disappointed. Not sure where you gathered your info but there is a misunderstanding and some statements are wrong!Concerning the statement of "religious backlash and the reduction in numbers for Sunday Brunch you have stopped serving cocktails and wine on a Sunday. So sorry to see that they have given in to the religious bigots in Mountain City and stopped serving alcohol." There has been NO RELIGIOUS BACKLASH, NO reduction in numbers and I don't understand the statement of giving in to religious bigots. Our Sunday brunch is very popular, continues to grow and is supported by the whole community ... church goers and non church goers alike. They are all welcome! "We can only hope that they shape up and stand up for themselves and continue to be a good restaurant , good bar and continue to be a great place to visit in Mountain City". There is also some wrong information here! We are fully licensed and permitted by the state to serve alcohol in fact the only place in our county that has a full license! BUT WE ARE NOT A BAR. We are a good restaurant that serves alcohol. No one has told us what to do. We applied to the state and got the license. We put up the $10,000 bond with the state for the privilege and we decide how we will use it in our restaurant. You can get alcohol on Sunday after 12:00 (thats the law)
Glad you enjoyed the course! Next season you will see the improvements of the NEW bunkers! We are busy this winter digging them out and rebuilding them. You will also see other improvements when we reopen in April.
I regret your experience was not what you expected. There are a number of good golf courses in the area called the high country but RedTail has long been recognized as the "best course in the high country" Last summer it rained almost every day and most courses suffered a loss in business from 30 to 50%. In fact some courses were forced to close from time to time because of all the water. It was extremely difficult to keep the course in good shape and impossible to keep it like we wanted. The cart path only holes were not random choices but because of the water on the course. Each day our grounds crew determined the holes that were dry enough for carts or needed to be cart path only. This was posted on the board in the pro shop and communicated by our staff. If this was not communicated to you properly I am sorry. There is never a time to be rude and if they were rude to you please accept my apology. Hopefully next year will be more like a normal year with not so much rain.
Thanks. We are continuing to make improvements and will have the bunkers completed by April 2014 when we reopen for the season. Indoor pool, tennis courts and a few other improvements are also in the works.
