The best of our adventure so far. Our tour guide was Rick. He was just great, friendly, funny and so knowledgeable. You can take pictures here and go through the whole house. There was a tornado a few years back and they have a room set up with pictures showing all the damages and the restoration. A must on your list of Historic Homes. Jesse James sleep there and the bed is still there. One tip is to go during cooler weather since they do not have air conditioning so if you go in the middle of summer it is HOT! We loved it and all 3 of us say that was the best one so far that we have visited.

Located less than an hour northeast of Nashville near Gallatin, Wynnewood is the largest 19th century log structure still standing in the state of Tennessee. Built in 1828, it was meant to be a spa resort along the stagecoach line where guests could take advantage of the sulphur waters of the nearby spring. It was also the location of the first post office in the area, and once had three general stores and several guest cabins. The Wynne family lived in the house, and hosted Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston and outlaw Jesse James. The bed in which James slept in is on display. Both Union and Confederate armies also occupied the Wynne farm. The building was badly damaged by a tornado in 2008, but is now fully restored and open for tours. Details can be found at http://bledsoeslick.com. I found the tour quite interesting. At one point, the building was owned by a doctor, and there are several 19th century medical tools. There are also original quilts throughout the house, which is decorated with a mix of furniture that belonged to the family or is of the period. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and there is a small gift shop. Wynne married Almira Winchester, who is the daughter of General James Winchester. You can visit his home as well, Cragfont, about a mile away. As that house was built in 1798, it's best to tour it first to get the history of the area in chronological order.
