Not overly fancy but a great way to see the city. The tower is free to the public. A left over from the World's Fair, it is something to definitely do while visiting the city. There is a restaurant in the structure. We did not eat there. But it is close to other things this making a nice walk about visit. Near by is the Art Museum, The Knoxville Chocolate shop, world fair park, convention center and only minutes away from other points of interest.
Take a ride to the top of the Sunspere to see the city of Knowville. Despite the windows being a bit dirty it was a nice way to see the city. Enjoy the World's Fair Park while you are there. We enjoyed the visit to Knoxville and the view from the Sunsphere make it special.
I was very excited to see the Sunsphere and the grounds of the World's Fair. I visited the World's Fair in Knoxville as a little girl with my family, therefore this trip held extra meaning. I had read that you could go in to the Sunsphere, although, the day of our visit, it seemed to be closed off for visitors to go up and inside. It was interesting to read the various markers about the World's Fair. It brought back great memories.
Had a company party here,so much fun and was different in a good way-food was good and would recommend to take family and to have a party event.
If you were not in Knoxville for the 1982 World's Fair you may have no idea why this gold orb dots the cityscape. It is free to go to the 4th floor observation deck. You can learn about Knoxville ( Visit Knoxville the city's CVB) updated the material in 2014. The windows are a little murky only because there is gold power in the actual glass... Plus who the heck can clean them everyday. You may have also seen this in a Simpson's Episode. It is an amazing place and luck that the city of Knoxville has kept this as an icon for the city. There is also the World's Largest Rubik's cube left over from the fair across the street.
was a great view of the city .The windows should of been a lot cleaner was very murky to look out. We were there mid-afternoon and the lounge /café was only open for evening hours ,was a bit disappointed ,but gave us more time to walk around market square. The price was right (free) so was at least worth the ride up
We took our grandson there and he was amazed at the pictures.and story's that lead to the building of it..lots of historic info and great views of the park
Why in the name of all that is holy did they only put one elevator in this place? You cannot have an event where all present can see the speaker/podium, as there is a huge support column smack dab in the center of the room.
If you are visiting or live in Knoxville you have to go check out the Sunsphere. If you can afford a little pricier of a meal then grab a great meal at the Icon lounge with their new star chef.
Icons is a nar/lounge located on the fourth level and its a great place to hang with friends and watch the sundown. Its very nice, well decorated, top self alcohol and beer with a selection of great appetizers. .Its moderately priced and great service and staff.
This is a good place to see the World's Fair Park, downtown Knoxville, and one end of the University of Tennessee campus.
In any other city an attraction like the Sunsphere Tower would cost you to visit but in Knoxville, its free! We took the elevator up to the observation deck on a sunny saturday morning and we were literally the only people there at first! You get good views of the city - the only disappointment was that one of the interaction video presentations wasn't working and the place could have been a little cleaner, but as I say, its free so its no big deal if you don't stay long.
Not much there really. You get to see the bleak expanse of the remnants of the WF parking areas from above. The windows are so dirty you can barely see through them. Worth the admission price LOL! Better things to do and see in Knoxville.
If you are traveling through Knoxville this is a must stop, it's free, and you get great views of the Mountains and UT campus. The sky lounge bar is a great place to get drinks.
Visiting the sunsphere in Knoxville is easy and free. The sunsphere is the only obvious remaining structure from the 1982 world fair. It is easy to access from I40, there is plenty of free parking nearby and it is free. Ride the elevator to the observation level for a view of Knoxville and the surrounding area.
