I happened to make a quick stop when I was driving through Colorado. I googled some things to do while I was in town. It sounded pretty cool on wikipedia so I made a quick stop in the morning. It's pretty cool; if you are into historic stuff I recommend you to check it out.

It was closed for the winter but there was a window you could see thru and take a few pictures.Cannot believe that it is original paint !!Beautiful artistically and historically !!! Amazing detail .. .want to see it close up

Spent a day in Burlington with my family. I didn't expect to see much here honestly but.... if you are in town, you must go see this! My kids loved it so much. It's well maintained and definitely the oldest carousel I have seen in my life!

Everyone needs to be a child again and ride a carousel! Everytime I go to Burlington to visit family we go to the to the carousel.

We have been here before, but continue to enjoy the beauty of the past. This carousel was made in Philadelphia out of Lindenwood for Elitch Gardens Amusement Park in 1905. It took 25 years to restore, and is 98% original paint! Paint was only added where it was torn or damaged. It is a great ride at 12-15 mph and only costs a quarter!!! A friendly, knowledgeable lady told us the history of this beautiful piece of art, then you pick your animal and go for a ride to music of the Wurlitzer organ. I admire the volunteers that keep this beautiful little park/museum open. They truly know and love the story surrounding a very special piece of history.

On our trip from Colorado to Nebraska on I-70 we started to see signs for the Kit County Carousal, we needed a break so we decided to stop not expecting too much, but it was totally worth the stop! The 100+ year old carousal is in it's 95% original condition, even the organ is original and sounds beautiful. The ride was only .25 and the museum a $1 (kids under 10 are free in the museum). The ladies that are in the small museum are very friendly and very informative. This is truly a stop off the beaten path we would do again.

Great little place to visit, the carousel is beautiful and the people running it are wonderful. It goes faster than I thought and that was really fun!

One of the neatest little treasures we've ever happened upon. Amazing craftsmanship and SO cheap to ride (25 cents!). Hang on... It spins fast, too! :)

Saw the marker in the Atlas map and decided to stop on our trip so we could get out of the car for a bit.Was a nice surprise find. 25 cents per person to ride the antique carousel. Museum is $1 to go through, we opted out.Nice outside grassy waiting area with benches. Good area for kids to wait around in and relax until the ride starts. History presentation was neat to hear but kind of long for the kids, lost their attention.Carousel was beautiful and went pretty fast. The lady running it must have been new, an older lady was present after the presentation and giving directions on what she should do and telling people who were trying to ride where they could and could not sit. Kind of rude.Kids enjoyed the ride and seeing the animals. Was a good stop for a break.

My great grandfather helped build this carousel. It is a wonderful place to visit with lots of history. A must see!

My wife chides me for seeking out odd places to stop on road trips, but she is usually pleased when I unearth a small treasure. On a previous trip in 2008 I spotted this carousel in the AAA book and we had a nice little ride. This time we stopped by design and were luscky enoguh to arrive just at opening time. The carousel is a vintage ride made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company like the one at HersheyPark where we work. This one is the oldest still extant and it is in great condition. The animals are beautiful and include rarities like camels and lions not just horses. The animals are stationary but the Wurlitzer Military Band Organ pumps out great tunes so you don't mind not going up and down. We will stop anytime we are on Route 70 from now on!

We were driving through on a cross-country trip and found the carousel when I checked Trip Advisor looking for a good lunch stop. We didn't find a great lunch, but the carousel was amazing. It is a beautifully preserved carousel that is almost 100 years old. It was all great, the animals, the oil paintings, the pipe organ and the woman who gave us the "tour". It was a very enjoyable stop.

The Carousel at Kit Carson County Fairgrounds has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. My family moved to Burlington in 1944 and the first time I rode it was during the County Fair in the summer of 1945. I started to school that same fall as an excited 1st grader. I believe the cost of riding at that time was 5 cents. I ride it each time I get a chance. When I got to be an adult I was appointed County Commissioner and that was in 1976 the Bicentennial yea and the community decided they wanted the Carousel renovated for the event. I had rebuilt a couple of pump organs and volunteered to rework the Whirlitzer Monster Band in the Carousel. It became apparent I would be unable to complete the job in time for the celebration so we contracted with a professional restorer in Colorado Springs. I had taken extensive pictures of the Band Organ as I disassembled it and loaded the instrument in one of my trailers with pictures in tow and took it to Colorado Springs where it was completely rebuilt by Art Riblitz. He did a wonderful job and the Organ plays perfectly. At the same time we as commissioners contracted with a Carousel restorer who removed all the old dark varnish from the Carousel animals and discovered the original painted animals under many coats of varnish. If you get an opportunity to go to Burlington please take time to see and ride the Carousel the Pride of Kit Carson County, it operates most weekends during the summer, you won't be disappointed.

We stumbled into town during the fair, so the carousel was open late (and actually free!) The ride was a good length and fun for young and old!

I'd love to catch this thing open. It's worth a look even if it's closed. You can see a lot through the locked doors, and read several signs.
