Great demo ride at Purgatory resort... I plan on booking a 1/2 day trip next year! The dogs were so excited to run and very friendly. Staff was wonderful.
We went dog sledding this past March with Durango Dog Ranch and what a fabulous time we had. We were ready to go again the next day. My daughter in law stood on the back with the driver and I sat on the sled. I got a bit wet as the weather was quite warm, but I didn't give a hoot as the ride and dogs were FABULOUS FUN!! I only wished the rest of my family had gone as well. When we're back in town we'll be sure to make a reservation. GUARANTEED FUN!! And the snacks were great as well! Hot chocolate, cheese and crackers, and sweets!. Yummmmmmm.
We went on the 4 hour dog sledding adventure through the San Juan National Forest and the entire trip was AMAZING. The dogs (for the most part) are friendly and will let you pet them (the guide will let you know if one is questionable). I was allowed to learn how to harness each of our dogs before being put on the drag line. The views were amazing! I rode on the back of the sled with our very friendly guide and had a blast! At the end, I didn't even realize that 3 1/2 hours had gone by! They offer a very small bottle of water before we began, then snacks, hot chocolate, and tea at the end of our ride. I would suggest this adventure for anyone!
We were looking for something fun to do outside of Durango, CO (we were there visiting family for spring break - early April). When we found out about dog sledding, it sounded like so much fun. We had an absolue blast...we all learned how to steer the dog sled and even a reluctant 10 year old got in there to steer the sled! Our guides were excellent and really customized the tour to meet our needs. I would highly recommend this tour if you're looking for something a little different, with an edge of adventure, while you're in Durango.
We "stumbled" upon the Durango Dog Ranch when looking for something to do other than skiing for my 13-year-old daughter, who had a serious concussion skiing two years ago. We were taking a family vacation to Durango, and my sons wanted to go snowboarding, but the girls wanted to do something else. When I told my teen daughters that we would be going dog-sledding, they just about jumped out of their skin. One daughter was literally counting down the days until we went. And the adventure "Mush on the Brain" did not disappoint! The guides showed us all how to hitch up the dogs, how to use the brakes, and more. The scenery in the San Juan National Park was just amazing, but the interaction with the dogs and actually getting to be the "driver" was an experience my daughters will never forget!
