We visited this museum on a trip to the very high altitude town of Leadville, and we had a lot of fun! The guys were kind of apprehensive about spending so much to simply get into the museum (I think it was about ten dollars each but I might be completely wrong). Yet, it was well worth it! We spent over an hour having fun in the different rooms - there are lots of working models for children (and adults) entertainment, as well as a gold panning station, an inside cave, and a walk-through mine, which was very similar to the real mines we visited in Salzburg! Oh, and for the rock enthusiasts, they have the coolest collection of stones and minerals I have ever seen - some of the weirdest rocks. Pink and fuzzy some of them! Do give it a try :)

This Museum ranks up there with some of the best! Lots to see and many hours to spend in this museum!

--should be a "must " for any visit to Leadville---great overview of mining history and present day exhibits--

We stumbled on the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum on a ski trip. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the exhibits. The focus is on mining, and offers everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask. There is a wide range of gems/minerals throughout the world in some rather stunning exhibits. Some of the exhibits are interactive. There is also a mock-up of the interior of an old mine along with some mining equipment. The Hall of Fame portion was of less interest. We spent and hour and a half, most of which was in the museum portion. You can't help but be impressed with the most interesting array of exhibits. The rooms were a labyrinth and somewhat confusing. They do provide a map to follow, but a little more direction detail would improve the experience,

I liked that they have tons of rocks/gems to view in their raw form as well as their polished form. I also enjoyed hearing/seeing things from the old mining days. Everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed the mining exhibit.

In the little mining town of Leadville, we enjoyed our time in the National Mining Museum. It was very instructive- dioramas of mining experiences, a reconstructed mine, and a lot of varied minerals and gems to see. We enjoyed talking to Bill at the desk, who had worked in mines.

You family should go here at least once to experience Leadville's true history! It's a gem to have in such a small town.

In some of the museums we've visited you see things, in some of the museums we've visited you learn things. The National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum is a perfect example of the latter. We spent 2 hours in the museum and could easily have spent 2 days! In the museum you will see precious gems and stones from around the world and a perfectly replicated mine. As you travel through the museum's mine you will see the tools used by the miners and in depth explanations of how the minerals were extracted. It is absolutely fascinating! If you're ever in the Leadville area take the time to visit the museum and be sure to allow yourself plenty of time!

We went to the museum and had such fun. There are many things to see and new things to learn. This is a repeat trip most definitely. They have many interactive exhibits and wonderful trips through history.

This is an amazing museum. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time; there is so much to see. The building is a former high school and they have done a great job using all the space. There are some awesome exhibits and lots to learn.

I have been here twice. I loved it both times. New exhibits and great old ones. The place is huge and entertaining. The fourth floor hall of fame could be done differently to make it more inviting. All the plaques can be overwhelming but it is a gem. So take some time to go through the whole place.

The museum was very informative. There is a lot to see in this museum. It took us a good two hours but the people of the museum took great pride in getting this set up with all the art work and feel of the mine shafts. Loved it!!!

Reserve two hours for this visit. It is overwhelmingly beautiful and exciting at the same time. You will want to become a miner, searching for gold and silver. You will want to become a geologist! It is a great place to visit for adults and an inspiration to children because of hands-on activities. There is a small fee (child to senior rates) but it is very well worth it. You will learn many new things about the raw material that comes from this good earth.

While we were driving around Leadville, Co. we came across this mining museum on up on the hill. We decided that it might be interesting to go see what they had inside. WOW, what a treasure to behold. If you want some history of Colorado Mining, then you have come to the right place. I never would have guessed that there had been eleven different minerals mined in the state of Colorado over the years. The exhibits were amazing and were well presented. The Crystal display was absolutely gorgeous. This is a must see museum if you are in Leadville.

While planning our vacation I thought this would be fun. My husband said, "...fun? ...a mining museum?". We both really enjoyed it. There is so much to see it is easy to get saturated before you finish. We both especially enjoyed the historical time line in relation to molybdenum mining/production.
