Highly recommend a day in the Brainard Lake Recreation area which is inside the Roosevelt National Forest. We got there before 7am hoping to get early Moose by the lake. We were not disappointed. This is 35 miles from RMNP so it's a very easy day trip.

Went there in march, and it was absolutely great! Love the hiking routes and you can go a lot of places by car, and then head on into the routes. Beautiful nature, great mountains!

Nice views of the frong range, roads in great condition for the winter. Easy distance to the National Western Livestock show in January.
