We stopped here on a trip to Wyoming and it was a brief but wonderful respite on a grueling drive. The sisters are very hospitable and the abbey grounds are beautiful and peaceful.I hope to return one day to spend some quiet time on a retreat here.
I'm just a local cowboy, but every now and again, I like to visit, sit in the chapel, and maybe chant with the sisters. Am a little surprised to find this cloistered monastery listed as an "attraction," but I know that besides raising livestock (yes, they are rough and tough ranchers) they host religious retreats. For me, visiting this place is an opportunity to shut off the cell and spend an hour for reflection and contemplation, allowing the divine to speak to me. The sisters are very gracious.
anyone needing to recenter and refocus should plan a stop at this amazing retreat. great location to take stock of yourself and just spend some time in peace
We took the children there to see it and it was very peaceful, the nuns were very nice, and enjoyed praying in the chapel and walking the grounds. There's not that much to actually do there, but we did leave with a small feeling of serenity and and warm gratitude to the nuns for their hospitality.
I participated in a one day retreat at the Abbey on Saturday, April 21st. It was a gloriously beautiful day in Colorado not far south of the Wyoming border. Our Franciscan fraternity from Northern Colorado was joined by members of a fraternity from Rock Springs, WY for a day of reflection in the quiet and natural surroundings of the Abbey. We listened; we prayed; we heard the nuns singing the Psalms. A wonderful, uplifting, spiritual experience was enhanced by the peaceful setting in the valley with numerous tranquil scenes helping us to refresh and reflect; just respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life and time to quiet our minds and souls. I would recommend this oasis to anyone in need of some time with God, nature and personal reflection.
This is just a wonderful place to escape for contemplative time. The setting is beautiful, if you wish you can listen to the nuns sing and the services, but they aren't required. You don't have to be Catholic to soak in the peace and to appreciate such a wonderful contemplative retreat.
