The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception has some of the most beautiful stained glass windows to be found in US churches. The marble work is beautiful as well.
I work a few blocks from the Cathedral and walk there a number of times a week to close the door on the noise and sadness outside of the doors. With the building on Colfax Blvd., a busy, noisy, somewhat dirty city street with a number of homeless and sad people on it, walking into the Cathedral separates reality with the beauty and peace of God.The building was created in 1901, I think, and the architecture is phenomenal. Upon entering the room, you are embraced with the marble, design, and traditional scene depicting a place of serenity and grace. There are candles to light for others, statues to pray before, and of course, the flickering light from the red candleholder indicating the presence of Jesus in the tabernacle.Turning to the back of the church, you see the huge pipe organ and the area where the exceptional choir fills the room during the weekend and for special events. Amazing. It is a beautiful, peaceful place to spend a few minutes or any period of time, knowing the Jesus resides close by.
Absolutely beautiful! This church is amazing with all of the fantastic artwork, stained glass and furnishings, it was wonderful to spend time just looking around. We are not church goers but glad we went to this one!
While visiting Denver, I was looking for a church to attend Sunday mass. I'm so glad I found this church downtown! The whole church is beautiful but the stained glass is magnificent! Well worth the visit and highly recommended. We had to park a couple blocks away but that's Denver for you. So worth it!
A beautiful church filled with light shining through the stained glass windows that were very impressive. I recommend a visit to this church to take a moment to relax and enjoy.
This a gorgeous church! Kind of a sketchy neighborhood, but worth visiting! If you need to go to Confession, they have hour every day!
Took my teenage children there when they were visiting and was very pleased that the side door was open so they could see this magnificent church. There were several people in there and everyone was very respectful, even the guy who was eating pizza.
Church was beautiful but the church is located almost in Denver downtown. there is no specified parking for the church, there is parking space but only for a maximum of 10 cars. Need to park outside if there is some available. Haven't got a chance to go inside
The Cathedral was gorgeous! My friends and I had only a few quick minutes to visit this cathedral but it was well worth it. I am not a religious person but was still awestruck by the beautiful architecture and the intricate stained glass windows that seemed to come to life on the bright sunny day. A couple of people were praying and some others were taking photographs but everyone maintained a sense of harmony. I definitely recommend!
The Cathedral is breathtaking. It's a part of history and is architecturally amazing! You won't belive all the amazing stained glass and marble that adores this church. Check it out for yourself and be in awe of everything you see.
It was a peaceful visit. I sat down in one of the benches and quietly connected with the Universal Energy...If you feel troubled go there, sit down, close your eyes and talk to the Universe... The Universe will provide the answers, you only will need to be receptive and NEVER GIVE UP...
It is good to see a church unlocked weekdays. The space is is very good church architecture and a nice quiet space. There were a few there praying and some like me who were there to pray and honor the prayerful space but also to admire the liturgical space. Saw a few others besides me taking a few photos but all seemed to be respectful of those in prayer and not using flash or being intrusive.
Note: This is an active parish. People come here to pray. Please be respectful and quiet, and if there a Mass going on: participate, sit quietly until it is over, or leave. The primary function of any church, regardless of architecture, is worship ~ don't interrupt. If there is a prayer service of any kind, and you wander across the front, you are intrusive ~ though the worshippers will likely be too polite to say anything. That being said, if there is no service, wander around, but not in the sanctuary (the raised area at the front, around the altar). Be awed. Take photos (no flash without the okay of staff). Immaculate Conception is immaculately white inside and very bright. You'll get great shots without a flash, honest. For those with a penchant for lighting a candle and praying, they have real candles ~ so have a couple of bucks for them. The stained glass is gorgeous. The stonework is fabulous. The statuary is wonderful, of course. If there was a helpful, informative brochure, I couldn't find it. I really wish there had been. The rear doors on Colfax were locked but the side door with the overwhelming World Youth Day relief, by the JP2 statue, was open. If you like architecture, stained glass or you're Catholic, you have to stop. It is stunning.
So, if you want to go, but afraid that you are intruding, I can tell you that I didn't feel that way at all. I walked in the backdoor (wheelchair ramp by the statue is best) and I was never made to feel that I was intrusive in walking in and gawking at the beauty. There were some prayers going on, but I really felt that it was ok to go in. Beautiful and worth the quick stop.
Enjoy a spirit filled mass at this beautiful cathedral. I attended services at 4:30 on Saturday, and I was amazed by the way the evening light illuminated the church's stained glass. It's a perfect setting to give thanks in prayer. Located a few blocks from the Denver Capitol.
