awesome bike ride up NO CARS!!!! And out of this world views the entire ride What life is all about Cant wait to return this coming summer
A must see for all levels of hikers. Stay low for a leisurely stroll on fairly level ground. Or, you can head up the mountain for a series of more strenuous trails. Views abound and naturalists were in the area to provide information on the flora and fauna. A beauty indeed.
We ride Harleys and riding them up to Maroon Bells is spectacular! It's as good as Glacier National Park and Independence Pass. Then then is another alternative that is almost as good and that is at the circle (round about) where you head to Maroon Bells, just next to it is the road to Ashcroft. No tourist only locals know about it so there is no parking problems and buses nor national park fees. That said, do both. Don't forget the best time to go is when the mountains are turning gold with the aspen trees.
Perhaps my expectations were inflated by the numerous glowing reviews here and elsewhere. I enjoyed the hike, the facilities were, by and large, good, and the views pleasing. But, I would not agree that Maroon Bells is "can't miss," or "breathtaking." If you have the time and wish to spend a few hours hiking in pleasant surroundings, by all means, go. My only criticism is that at certain points on the trail, markings could have been better.
A must see. Either hike on a low trail around the lake or go up the path to the upper lake. Any level of hiker should go, even those who can only walk a little.
One of the most beautiful places on earth. Unfortunately, a lot of people feel that way, so taking a bus there during the summer is the only way to get there. You have to share your experience with an awful lot of other people. if you can be around the lake during twilight, it is a truly magical experience.
One of America's most beautiful locations to enjoy mother nature either with friends or alone. In good weather, when open, hiking is fantastic.
We have traveled extensively and have seen many fabulous places in Europe, Brazil, and North America. However, our favorite of all is Maroon Bells, where we go as often as possible in early October to see the golden aspens and celebrate our wedding anniversary.
I typically do back-country hikes, so this was on our way to the trail head, but for people who can not go into the backcountry with a heavy backpack, this is a location that should not be missed. Bring your camera!
The views are beautiful. We hiked the trails and could not believe the views getting better and better. It is a must stop in Aspen.
Oh my! Let me just say you MUST DO THIS! This is by far the most photographed place in the World. The proximity to Aspen is so close that you must take 15 minutes to go this location. You will not be disappointed!
Go before 8am in summer to get parking. Later you must take a bus from downtown. Hike 2 miles for lower lake or much longer for a backpacking trip.
There's a reason these mountains are the most photographed in Colorado. We have been fortunate to visit the Belles on many of our trips to Aspen but nothing came close to our experience after 911. After witnessing the brutality of 911, we got in the car and drove. Ended up in Aspen and the only one there was the park ranger. Having this stunning place to ourselves, and the quiet beauty, to reflect is something I will never forget. In the summer it is crowded and you have to take a bus so have a little fun on the bus and ask the driver what's the craziest question they've been asked. My favorite: where do you put the animals at night?
