Ah, Smithsonian Free Museum Day! We decided to see what changes have been made here in the many years since we've visited. The main building is very bright and clean with good restrooms. The gentleman at the front desk was great. There are quite a few exhibits on local history and I like that they photographed their outdoor buildings before they were renovated. The 11 buildings outside were interesting but the larger ones were closed due to the season. I understand that it's a lot more fun when there are costumed interpreters. There is a research library open by appointment There are also many events throughout the year such as Halloween celebrations and a Victorian Tea. There is a shop and the parking is free.

My wife and I went on a Wednesday and all of the vintage buildings were locked! There were no activities or demos taking place, no one was dressed in period attire, and no costumed interpreters to interact with. I called while we were walking around the grounds and was informed that these thing take place when there are festivals or special engagements! The exhibits in the main building were very informative. My wife and I enjoyed reading all of the stories and excerpts of time past. Parking is free and there are inside restroom facilities!

A great place to learn about and explore the rich history of the Buffalo-Niagara region. Excellent museum and 35 beautiful acres home to 11 historic homes. You'll find employees dressed in character, interesting exhibits and an impressive gift store with unusual toys and other items. Fun events scheduled throughout the year. Fun for all ages!
