At the tip of the cape, the scene and sun set should be really nice. However, after visiting over 10 light houses on the trip and a cloudy late afternoon, somehow this is not impressive any more. For sure a great place for those who love water activities.

Went to visit when lighthouse was supposed to be open. Understand it is staffed by volunteers but was disappointed that the buildings on the grounds were closed. Still was able to walk around the grounds and read the plaques that explains the history of the lighthouse. Got some great pictures and it is pretty on the water.

We were in Watertown for a wedding and visited friends in Cape Vincent. We arrived early and decided to kill some time driving around the area. Popped the lighthouse into the GPS and I am so glad we did. The drive to the lighthouse had some spectacular views of the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario. When we arrived at the lighthouse the sun was starting to set and the sun through the clouds was breathtaking. Lake Ontario was very rough...looked like the ocean water at Jones Beach except it was a beautiful pale blue color. Thinking of coming back next fall and staying at the Harbor Resort in Clayton. Living on Long Island many of us never get to discover how beautiful New York really is...we really need to explore update in greater depth.

We search for lighthouses wherever we travel and this one did not disappoint us. It is on a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Ontario with great views on all sides. The road to get here is scenic-- passing by lovely homes and following the shoreline all the way to the point. There is no fee to park. Highly recommend a visit.

Biked down a beautiful 3 mile stretch of road from Cape Vincent (the very few drivers seen were extremely polite) with two 7 y.o. to this lovely lighthouse area. The view is fabulous and the gift shop very nice. The artifacts preserved by the Cape Vincent community are impressive. The area should be proud of what they have done here. Well worth the view of Lake Ontario, let alone the history of the lighthouse. This is a highly recommended free attraction. There is a hostel at this location also.

This lighthouse was easy to get to and it was free to visit. If you like light houses. This is a good one to see

My husband and I toured this area over Labor Day weekend. I like lighthouses and was glad I got to see this one. Nice to see inside and out (you cannot climb it though). The fog horn house was interesting. We had a nice talk with the woman in the gift shop too!

Unreal how huge the lake looks from the lighthouse. Very best sunsets and quite romantic. Well worth the 3 mile detour.

I happen to be a sucker for lighthouses, and like to delude myself that I might have been born in the wrong time period, part of me longing for the lonely job of lightkeeper. No cell phones, no people, no bosses. And there's a nice gift shop. And let's face it, there isn't a lot else to see in Cape Vincent if you aren't on the water, where you should be if it's summer.

Nice lighthouse, and recommend stopping there if in the area. A bit out of the way, but worth the drive. It was also cool to see some of the huge barges going by.

light keeper's house now used as hostel, no access to lighthouse tower, but great view of lake and river

A very nice spot to visit, especially on a nice day. Unfortunately, you cannot go up into the lighthouse, but some of the other buildings are accessible. Nice little gift shop with very nice people. The foghorn is fun to hear.

If you have the lighthouse bug, love the St. Lawrence River, just enjoy Lake Ontario, or are beginning a vacation in the 1000 islands, the Tibbetts Point lighthouse and grounds are for you. A lovely short drive or bike ride from the center of Cape Vincent, you will be rewarded with some of the most impressive scenery imaginable. But, you can't climb the lighthouse.....

Tibbetts point is a little out of the way, but the small road that takes you there is lined with some beautiful summer homes. The lighthouse is run by volunteers and they couldn't be nicer. We talked with one for at least 20 minutes. I would give this a 5th star, but you can not go inside the lighthouse, which was a big disappointment. Still, if you are nearby take a few minutes to stop in.

For thirteen years now we have owned our cottage on the shore of Lake Ontario. From our cottage deck we have watched charming Tibbetts Point Lighthouse turn on each evening as the sunset ends. This 69 foot high lighthouse is a local treasure. Visiting the lighthouse you will be able to see Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence River, freighters up close and beautiful sunsets. Using the telescope on site you will be able to see several islands and a couple more lighthouses in Lake Ontario. Standing at the lighthouse you will see Wolfe Island, Canada across the river. If you like huge wind turbines you all see at least 100 on Wolfe Island. About 2 miles down the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse road is the town of Cape Vincent where you can pick up the ferry over to Wolfe Island. A 20 minute drive across Wolfe Island will bring you to a second ferry that will take you over the Kingston, Canada. Yes, you will need a passport. Tibbetts Lighthouse also has a hostel where you can stay overnight. Be sure to make reservations especially in the busy months of summer.
