I was particularly struck by the impact of Roger's middle school teacher on the trajectory of his career. What a profound influence she had on him! So thankful to see this. That's why we go to museums - to learn the hidden facts and features.
With more than one copy of Peterson's books on my bookshelf, this visit to his boyhood town was an interesting one. It brought back memories of earlier years when his books brought the birds in the backyard into full view -- their colors, habitats, migration patterns, calls, etc. The Institute introduces visitors to Peterson as a man and as a naturalist, a vocation that moved him beyond the study of birds to other animals. There are fewer originals from the master's hand than expected but those on display are evidence of his skill as well as passion. A small bookstore holds a library of his publications and is an incentive to buy one more book to add to your collection.
Beautiful job in preserving Peterson's works. Very educational, even if you are not as much as a bird enthusiast as Peterson himself you will be glad you went. Lovely atmosphere and grounds.
This is a peaceful place. We would have hiked through the woods but it had just rained and was quite muddy and full of bugs. The displays are interesting for anyone has ever used a Peterson's Guide book!
The Art work is highly rated!!! The walk is beautiful and very easy for any one to enjoy. It is safe for everyone!
Nice and peaceful hiking through woods and to a neat pond. Building also has educational displays and information.
Jamestown may be a small place, but it is the birthplace of Roger Tory Peterson, the naturalist. It is great that such a small place has a natural park with a center for kids to learn about wildlife and plants. It is also great for people wanting to teach their kids about nature, as there are trails to walk on.
Even if you are not a big bird / nature fancier this is a great place to visit if only for the magnificent architecture of the building. A very peaceful location almost in the city of Jamestown. Beautiful walking trails and a museum / library profiling the work of Roger Tory Peterson. One weakness - not enough information on the man himself. They need a description of the man and his work as you enter the facility.
If you have a Field Guide to the Birds, or any other Field Guide, you know of Roger Tory PetersonRoger Tory Peterson grew up in Jamestown, roaming the fields and woods not far from here. Much of his works is being housed in the extensive library, along with changing exhibits and gift shop.
Absolutely gorgeous building. Original artwork. Amazing exhibits. Viewing spots and trails. If you are a birder or wildlife lover, you owe yourself a visit.
This is a stunning building when you walk up to it.The art work and information inside is just great. We were only there for about an hour, but could easily have made an afternoon of it.They also have hiking trails for those who want to get out and about.
The institute is a new facility that is quality educational and natural history center. It's ground are lovely, it's library is extensive and the art work in amazing. If you are a birder be sure to go, is you enjoy the art of nature by all means go, the grounds are very family and child friendly especially when there are educational programs being offered. When in the Jamestown area this definitely an activity that should not be missed.
RTPI is a wonderful tribute to Mr. Peterson. The facility is gorgeous and birds abound. The collection of paintings and books are wonderful.
Really interesting. Usually has a great collection of prints, paintings. Scenery is great. The outside trails have lots of birds. The store has all of the Roger Tory guide books. Very interesting. Recommend to any birders. Great place to go. Has a great research library also.
I had heard about the man, but didn't realize he lived quite so close to my area. He added so much to our knowledge of birds!
