We love to go here for the beach. They have a beach there and the lake you can swim in. The kids love building sand castles while mom hangs out on the beach relaxing! The best thing for us was to get the Season Pass for the NYS parks---def worth it!
We went to this one because we had concert tickets dor darien lake PAC. nice campground. didnt end up with any standing water where we were after the rain. it was pretty crowded due to the holiday. they only had 2 showers in ladies room. water was HOT. Nice beach. they could use a camp store in the park. pretty clean. playground in good shape for our grandson
We stayed here on tips from Facebook friends and some other Tripadvisor contributors, and we are so glad we did! We stayed on A loop, where it didn't seem like there was a bad site! Plenty of trees, easy access to water. Bathrooms were overall quite clean. The staff were all so polite, from the rangers to the groundskeepers, to the lifeguards at the beach. It was generally quiet, and everyone was so friendly - except the one couple who was there for the KISS/Def Leppard concert at the theme park! Notes for next time: Stick to sites at the back of A loop; the first 10 sites or so, as well as B loop and the overflow, were too open for my liking. Site 43 got pretty swampy (it was rainy and cold this week). They don't sell firewood at the park, make sure you have the proper change to leave at the roadside stands.Notes for theme park: This option worked out SO much better - four nights here, two days' worth of passes at Duty Free (Cheaper for Canadians on Wednesdays!!), plus groceries, was about $200 cheaper than staying at the theme park even before food was purchased. We are a family of five; 3 kids ages 16, 10, and 7, travelled with a "ride buddy" for my eldest! We have a 16' hybrid trailer.
We just finished camping at this park. We camped there for 9 days. We chose this park because it was close to the bowling centers we had to be at for our grandsons USA junior gold championships meet. We will never stay at this campground again. First we had holes around our camp sit you could twist your ankle in. I ask to have them put some dirt in them to level them off. After asking three times I finally got it done. Showers in men's bathroom are terrible. Water trickles out. Broken handle on shower. Every evening when we would return to the campground you were treated like a criminal. They would stick a flashlight in your face. Ask questions like what site are you on. How many people in your party. Kind of make you think you should be back in the campground by 10:00 at night. Security is fine but you felt like you were being treated like a criminal. This happened every evening. The worst thing was when we ask for a refund of one days camping, because we had a family problem that came up without notice causing us to leave a day early. They refused to refund us the one day. They said they keep one days camping fee if you leave before your selected time is up.i think that is criminal. They could go ahead a re-rent our spot after we leave. That would be double dipping. I ask them the reason they keep a day. All they would say is it's in the park rules.
The park was great for what we used it for. It was clean, the grass was great, the staff at the office was very polite. This was a great place to stop over for the night. I would highly recommend. We did not use all of the amenities of the park like the swimming or frolf.
This is a beautiful and well-maintained State Park in Western NY. We were there mid-week and I understand it is VERY BUSY on the weekends because of its proximity to Darien Lakes Amusement Park but Sunday-Wed. we were very quiet. Our only negative was our site was not very level and I have been in better bathrooms but the beauty and peace and quiet more than made up for that. We will go back.
Upon arriving I went in to check in. There were 6 people working in the room. It was very noisy and hard to hear the guy talking to me. You would think when a guest checks in they would get proper attention. There were only 3 others camping. The camp sites are spacious but out in the open. No privacy like I have seen in other places we have camped at like trees or bushes. Only 1 shower in one of the bathrooms and 2 in the other. I couldn't imagine it on the weekends when they are busy with more campers. Our fire pit was practically in the other camp site. The big plus for this place is the closeness to the theme park.
Great family campground. Clean and quiet but still only a few minutes away from the amusement park. Fishing, hiking etc. Great place for kids to
This was our second year camping at this state park and we will definitely go back. The beach, campgrounds and rest rooms are very clean. The staff is pleasant at check- in. The trails were good for hiking and an overall good experience
This is for the STATE park, not the amusement park. This is a pleasant, smaller state park a bit farther south from the amusement park. It has the typical state park amenities and has been clean and well serviced every time I've been there. There is a network of nice trails as well as a small pond for fishing. There is also a roped off area to let the kids swim. This park doesn't get large crowds and tends to be family oriented so it's a quiet stay. This is a family favorite.
I've been going here ever since I was a little kid. It has gone through a lot of changes - some good and some bad. It's definitely worth going if you are in the area, but to go more than once is just not worth what they charge anymore. It's a fun place, but the last couple years it's started to feel more like a ghost town rather than a thriving amusement park. Worth checking out, just not what it used to be.
Buying a seasons pass to Darien Lake is a great value. With the addition of a water park you can beat the dog days of summer. In August is Kingdom Bound, a Christian gathering that brings together the nicest people. Get a season log drink cup and popcorn bucket and you will be set.
We got to the park later in the season and seems like we picked a good time. The trails which run off of Campground A were great for off road bikes. Mostly flat with a few hills, they wound through back country and forest. However, you really can't get lost with the topo map given to you at the gate and the numbered transfer stations along the routes. Next time we plan on starting at the trailhead off of Rte77 and cycling in. Challenging through the thick grasses that were left to grow over the last few weeks.
