The kaleidoscope show was fun and funky. We saw it at a quiet time and could lie down on the floor and look straight up. Cool!
The kaleidescope is so big we laid on the floor to watch. The music and display is varied and interesting. It had a 70s feel to it. The entire thing runs 10 or 15 minutes and was entertaining. It was worth the admission price of $5.The kaleidescope store felt overpriced but I don't really have any experience with shopping for them so I cannot say if it is or not. There were other small shopping areas that were interesting. This gets 4 stars instead of 3 just because of the sheer size and uniqueness.
Computer generated kaladoscope show in a very tiny room... When we went it was empty so we got to lie on the floor and view the show on the ceiling... They have 3 different shows- we say the change of the seasons.,
I wasn't sure how this would be but it was fun. And the store has a million kalidescopes to see and try. Many are expensive.
We stopped to see the kaleidoscope. Fhe store was very nice with lots of kaleidoscopes and the like for sale - overpriced I thought.....but I would not know any better. The show was nice. Best to watch it while on your back instead of on the seat things. Aside from the shopping this is a 30 minute stop on your way through.
The ten minute show was unique as this is the world's largest kaleidoscope . The shop attached to it had hundreds of beautiful and unusual kaleidoscopes for sale from artists all over the US.
Amazing! The staff was very knowledable and kind when we had questions. It was beautiful to see. There is a small store with all sorts of kaleidiscoes for sale.
Great show of the World's largest kaleidoscope. As a hotel guest of the Emerson, you get to see it for free!
We were staying at the hotel and realize there is a kaleidoscope store with a giant kaleidoscope to see. Went there, it was something that you saw once and probably is good for life kind of experience. But the store itself has a huge collection of kaleidoscopes which my husband and I enjoyed very much. We tried out different ones and just check out how they do it, it was very fun and I feel like I was being a kid again.
If your passing by then sure stop by, it was 5$ per adult, my boys 6 & 8 were free. Nothing spectacular but neat to see "world's largest telescope". I would recommend laying on floor if possible. I thought that the lady running it was not kid friendly (didn't get her name though). Its definitely a once and done thing, wouldn't return. Its inside a cluster of independent stores that were nice to browse through.
Definitely stop by. Look at the different kaleidoscopes they have for sale and don't forget to see the show!
The tube of the "World's Largest Kaleidoscope" is contained in an old barn silo at an attractive site site near Hunter Mountain. You lean back on padded leaning benches to watch the exciting, colorful audio visual presentation above you. Great music accompanies the flowing patriotic themes above you. Great gift shop, great snack food and carefully maintained. Easy parking.
Not far from the Woodstock NY (where else?) or the slopes of Hunter Mountain Ski Resort stands a small attraction in Mt. Tremper, NY which calls itself the “World’s Largest Kaleidoscope.” It is about 20 minutes west of the Kingston NY exit of I87 (NY Thruway) on Rt 28. It is part of the Emerson Resort and Spa. There is a Country Store with gifts and antiques, lodge, spa and restaurants with ample parking but don’t blink as you could miss it. Look for the 56’ silo that now serves as a kaleidoscope tube and contains an audio visual presentation projected on the ceiling with padded wooden leaning benches for your viewing. If you are fortunate to be with a small party they might recommend you lie on the floor with your feet to the outside for the best total experience. Listen for folk, jazz, big band, rock with patriotic themes with fractal reflective images that are often quite remarkable. We found the cost to be good value and memorable informative amusement was had by all. When finished with the psychedelic experience of one three themed shows you can enjoy true works of art in a gift shop / museum containing a multitude of kaleidoscopes from simple to complex including stunning works of art. It can be quite tempting. Our 3 year old grandson chose a souvenir kaleidoscope with colorful candy as the viewing object, our 9 year old granddaughter went with the princess version while our 11 year old grandson opted for the self assembly model. I have been known to cynically describe “modern art” as a opportunity for artists to share their drug induced hallucinations without actually having to share their drugs. I could imply this is what hippies can do when they have too much money. But if you are into the art and science of this multiple projection device this is a do not miss attraction. But caution, even if you are not you might be when you are finished. Peace!
A gem, and I think all should check it out if in the area. The collection of kaleidoscopes equals the show. It is a unique and wonderful trip. Interesting collection of scopes and relaxing to be inside the largest one. Really cool, my kids loved it. Great gift shop
many kaleidoscopes including the largest in the world, magical place for young an old. great gifts as all are made my american craftpersons/artists. Susan was wonderful, showing me the secrets of many of the kalidoscopes
