If you like old cars and car culture you will enjoy this attraction. It is only open by appointment during the time of year that I visited and I may have rated it higher if I had gone inside. It is very well kept up and makes a lovely photo opportunity. A small step into the past.

A downtown Rome corner is transported back to a simpler time with this old gas station, reborn in all its 1930 red, white and blue glory. The story of Rome's Sears family (not that big impersonal Sears) is a story of a city and a country, told by people who love both in less than a half hour visit.

This is a cool place to visit. The station is in a residential area and comes on like a surprise as you drive down North George Street. They have antique pumps, air compressors, and signs. You can look in the office and see that there are signs that say "gas 12 cents per gallon!"

Very nicely kept old service station in the heart of Rome, NY. You can't go into the station, it is fenced off, but you can stop and look at it as part of an historic tour of the area.

If you are an older person then this will bring back memories of your youth. If you are a younger person you can see what things looked like back "in the day". A nice place to visit and remember when you were young,

The H.P. Sears Service Station Museum is like an oasis of charm and history amidst the parking garages and office buildings in downtown Rome. The museum is actually at the corner of what is considered the Historic District in Rome, North George and Liberty Streets. Stumbling upon this lovingly restored 1929 service station is like finding a toy ring in a Cracker Jacks box; you just want to smile and show it off. The museum itself, dedicated to the original service station owner, Howard P. Sears, Sr., and housed in a clean, white building with red-tiled roof, is filled with items from the gas station, such as gas pumps, nozzles. and cans of Sears branded oil, as well as odds and ends from the era that this gas station was in major usage. Outside are old fashioned, white and red gas pumps with clock faces and glass globes that advertise Sears' name for his own brand of gasoline, TriPure, as well as fence-mounted billboards, porcelain signs, authentic light poles and fixtures. Come visit this gem of a museum, and appreciate that there are people who were, and are proud of their upstate city of Rome.
