I live 1 hr 40 min. away from this place but I still buy a Season Pass every year. They have a great deal for season pass (only $43.80 for 2 adults and 2 children!), you break-even at 2nd visit even if you don't have any child, so any visit after 2nd, you'll be enjoyng the zoo for free. I recently visited Toronto zoo but was totally disappointed how unorganized and inefficient the zoo was. Of course there were several wonderful exhibits too but everything was too spreaded apart between exhibits and so hard to see any animals that were hiding from the visitors. It was just too large with lots of hills and walking for little kids/ seniors/ disabled was almost painful. This little zoo is exactly opposite. You get to see AND TOUCH/ PET/ FEED most of the animals you see and the whole area is small (great for lil' children), safe and very efficient. Pretty cozy place to walk around. All the staffs including the owner were very friendly too. Playground/ other activities: They have children's play area as well. Water activity area too. You can ride a little boat on their pond. Feeding those hunderds of catfish? was fun too.FOOD: I'd bring your own lunch. Lots of picnic tables.TIP: Bring blueberries/grapes -- for animals like lemurs and monkeys LOVE fruits! It's fun feeding them and nutritious treats for them too. All other animals, zoos sell the crackers made for those animals (goats, deers, etc.). Littls pricey but very fun and safe to feed the animals. All in all, I love this place. Hope it stays open forever !
Loved visiting here...beautiful zoo with well taken care of animals. Staff was super friendly. The grounds are beautiful. The wolves were our favorite! The baby goats and baby deer were adorable. Can't say enough good things about this place! Bring quarters..they have feed machines near the deer and goats.
My family loved going to Fort Rickeys Discovery Zoo. Bring a picnic lunch and spend the day hanging out. The kids had a blast in the water activity area. When we were there which was a few years ago we had the chance to see a porcupine that had been raised when it was very young by the staff. How cool is that! We went there several times over the years and we always had a fun day at the zoo. Great memories!
Loved the wolves! Great relationship with the trainer! I just loved my visit and so did my daughter.
My grandchildren love this place and so do I. I've learned as much here as they have from the friendly and knowledgeable staff.I watched my oldest grandson sit with a boa constrictor wrapped around his shoulders and accepted his dare to do the same. We watched the wolves mature and learned to have a deep respect for them. We laughed as the deer came running to eat the food we bought for them at the entrance to the petting area and giggled as the baby goats looked for our attention. We have enjoyed Halloween and hayrides and parties and picnics at Fort Rickey. We will definitely be going back there again.
Fort Rickey is one of the best attractions for childrens enjoyment and education about animals. The place is clean, well layed out and the staff is friendly and helpful. The wolf show is a must see.
Fort Rickey is a family-owned petting zoo in a lovely farm-like setting. Children can interact with the animals with facility personnel supervising these areas. The site and the animals are so clean and healthy. Fort Rickey is "committed to the belief that children, who have experienced the joy of kind and gentle interaction with animals, are more likely to become adults who care about wildlife and conservation." It is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon with children.Easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Restrooms and picnic area on site.
