I almost got run over by a tractor and I think that is what made me love this winery the most. Old school at its finest. Wine was OK, good enough to get a bottle and sit on the farm and relax. You can’t beat their prices and the experience!
Until a few years ago I had no idea this winery existed. Finally had a chance to get here during a recent visit to LI and I was not disappointed. Hidden off a side road and behind reefs, canals and a historic house lies this winery. Its tasting room is a glorified cabin and inside of it sits Barney, the 88 year old proprietor. Barney is one of the friendliest winery owners I have encountered and not just because of his love of wine. The man is filled with stories and is willing to share his knowledge. The wine is also very good. The chardonnay being the standout. If you find this place you will be glad you did.
We visited this vineyard with friends from CT because we did not have time to go out to the East vineyards. The vineyard is at the end of a dusty one way dirt road. The tasting room is a shack. But the owner was funny, pleasant and poured free small tastes. We bought a snack and sat outside and shared a bottle of wine. It was a great place for a nice visit with friends.
