This building, built in 1954, houses the oldest worshiping Lutheran congregation in the United States. Having relocated from the downtown area in the mid 1900's, This congregation has redefined itself in outreach to the neighborhood in which it finds itself. They host community dinners monthly, host the Damion Center, as well as the area Council of Church offices, and works with the city mission to provide sleeping quarters for the homeless during the colder months...recently, they have become host to Capital Ride Share, which provides automobiles for short rentals, to those who cannot afford to own a car, this is for a limited time and is a new program. This is a welcoming congregation, and the Gay and Lesbian community is embraced by these people and their pastor. There is always something going on in this Church. The services are to be found on the church website, and there plenty of off street parking. This is a great place to worship if you are in Albany! It is close by the many colleges that are just down the street from it.
This ELCA congregation traces its history back to 1646 in Albany. The current church sanctuary is mid-20th Century, but the unusual painted glass windows tell the story of the founding days of the church locally. Call the church office for information if visiting other than Sundays.
