Any visit to the DeLorme Map Store is a great visit. When you enter, the first thing you see is the giant globe, which rotates on an axis...replicating the earth's actual movement. In order to view the entire globe, you can move to a second level. It is the world's largest to scale model globe. Great for kids and adults alike...really holds one's attention and interest. They have a large gift shop full of maps from everywhere...also a huge selection of travel books (worldwide) and a sizeable selection of books on seeing Maine. Lots of toys and items geared toward children...however, most items have educational merit or slant...while also providing fun and holding kids' interest. There are computers geared toward maps, travel, and the earth...free to use, but not connected to the Internet, as far as I could tell. Very clean restrooms for guests. Lots of easy parking. Very helpful staff...especially in the book area. A fun place to visit and it is free, unless you choose to purchase something in the gift shop. It's a big decision though, as the book and map selections are fabulous.

This place has a huge globe when you walk in...it is just amazing to stand there and look at it...but it's worth the trip to just stop here and check it out...

We happened upon this place and very glad we did. They boast Eartha….the world's largest revolving and rotating globe. It was amazing. It is directly off of the highway. That makes it easy to get to. You can check out the globe, take pictures and peruse the store all in 30 to 45 minutes. And it's free. Love this place.

This place is just one of those really cool one-of-a-kind stops that you need to see. It won't take a lot of your time and it is definitely interesting if you are at all into navigation/mapping or gps geocache hunting. The globe is lighted in the evening and is really beautiful. Our hotel was at the end of the street so we stopped by on the way out and were very glad we did. Give it a whirl if you are anywhere near during your travels.

The globe is magnificent - 4 stories tall, with stairs that take you from bottom to top for viewing. On it's axis, rotating - a great geography lesson. And a wonderful store, full not only of maps, but also books, children's books, toys, and games all having to do with geography.

Couldn't believe how quick a stop it was. Kids were amazed and had a blast going to the different floors and viewing the globe as it turned. They even give you a free postcard as a momento! We made a stop in the factory store and picked up a few map/Travel toys which were perfect for our trip up to Acadia. Thank goodness for Nat Geo Kid travel book warning us about this gem as you would drive by as miss it otherwise.

Guiness Book - largest scale model World Globe. The map store was interesting with books and gifts for all ages but especially kids. You can view the World from two floors and watch it spin on it's axis. The kids really liked this store and it's worth stopping for all ages.

A quick stop. Lots of parking, right off highway. Near Yarmouth, Maine. Between Freeport and Portland. Huge rotating globe is fun to watch and see the continents and oceans drift by. Chairs to sit on and relax. Elevator to get you to the top and middle sections. Well stocked science store with lots of fun items to learn about our planet and the stars too.

There are a few photo ops here such ad the globe and the corporate sign at the entrance. Lots of products and keepsakes. I was shocked not see any magnets. This is about a 20 minute puts stop friendly people but not much anything to do except globe watching and shopping for gifts. We did find some discounted nice red hats with company logo

If you're interested at all in maps or geography, this is your place. First, there is the 3-story rotating globe. This is a fantastic piece of work by itself. The Map Store has every imaginable type of globe and map you might want. It is an amazing place, for young and old alike.

During our visit to Maine in 2013, there was no way that we could simply pass by the DeLorme Company and not see the giant earth replica "Eartha." It is truly a sight to behold. My husband was as excited as any small child during this visit. He is an avid lover of maps and of all things science. We spent an hour browsing through the gift shop as well, where he found several small treasures to add to his small treasure collection. The gift shop contains many cool offerings for children and adults alike. A very fun way to spend a couple of hours before hitting the shopping district in Freeport.

This is a delightful place not to be missed by tourist and Mainers, alike. The Delorme Store is truly one of a kind. You will find everything you need in the way of road maps, marine charts, highly detailed U.S. And state atlases, international travel guides, globes and much mush more. And for the kids, a huge variety of educational, science and just plain fun toys and books. Finally, there's EARTHA, the world's largest globe of, what else, the earth. It stands more than three storeys tall and is a wonder to behold! So if you're headed to Yarmouth, or just passing through, jump of exit 17 on I-295 and visit.

We stopped at the information center across the street, and happened on DeLorme by chance. What a great find! I love maps, and this was pleasure overload. Great place to pick up souvenirs that don't induce eye rolls, too.

We have passed DeLorme so many times on our trip north to Houlton. We finally stopped by. As a previous poster noted, the rest rooms are clean. The gift shop is very interesting. Found some cool books on places to visit in Maine. There are benches on each floor to rest on if you need a break. Go up to the third floor to see the whole globe from the top down.
