While a must see if you are going to Providence, don't expect to spend more time here than it takes you to finish your food unless you are going to the Avon Theatre. There are some pretty nice niche shops and a good hookah bar, but unless you are meeting up with friends for a trivia night at Spats (which I highly recommend) than you might get burned out a bit quickly on the street. Some place you should definitely make a point of seeing are Andreas (amazing food), English Cellar Alehouse (144+ kinds of beer including gluten free and scotch eggs) and Bedlam (an alternate clothing store that is what Hot Topic wishes it could be).Walk slowly, take time to visit each shop and get yourself some crepes. It'll be a great hour or so to enjoy and either hopefully return to or keep walking down to Wickenden Street.

Thayer street is very busy due to a confluence of colleges locally (Brown, Johnson & Wales, Rhode Island School of Design). It has some chain retail places, but also some unique stores and places to eat as well. Browns main bookstores are on this street, along with a bunch more and there is always a decent buzz due to the college crowds.

We enjoyed walking up and down Thayer street and popping into some of the unique shops. I bought incense at an Indian store and my boyfriend bought a jacket at the Army Navy Store. People were very friendly and helpful. The people watching was also fun as we witnessed a sorority pledging new women and a frat singing as they walked down the street. Oh, to be in college again, good times.

There are so many things to see on Thayer Street! With all of the shops and places to visit, this sightseeing can take all day. There is something for everyone here and no one will walk away bored. Beautiful area of the city to visit.

Wonderful Greek restaurant not to be missed and love going to Urban Outfitters and catch a movie in the small theatre! Historic buildings and charming location!

I have been to Thayer street many times whether it is for food, scenic views, or shopping. I just had a recent visit to Brown to visit my cousins, and it was in close walking distance to Thayer street. Parking is easy, and the selection of restaurants is huge. Thayer also holds a unique collection which is what makes it one of the main attractions in the city of Providence. I would highly recommend visiting Thayer street and experiencing its positive vibes any season, year round.

Just now moving to providence, Thayer St (from daytime visits during Brown's winter break) is not anything close to a oh,wow, cool street. Numerous campusy restaurants of average quality (but priced for Brown u parents....), a pretty bad Urban Outfitters, some other fairly standard mainstay names. In no way worth a special trip, save a visit to the totally charming AVON CINEMA, a great independent movie house.

If you like middle eastern food, Thayer st. is the place, if you come to providence, stop, Thayer st. is located in the heart or Providence, sidewalk sitting, coffee tables, and you can enjoy the scenery of beautiful people from Brown University, RISD, Moses Brown School, is a Historical place, and a busy commercial area. come see.

Thayer Street is a fairly typical stroll down a row of restaurants and shops catering mainly to the Brown University students. There are a couple of decent restaurants here (Cabob and Currry, Andreas) and a lot of mediocre ones. It is worth a couple of hours if you are already touring the East Side, but not a great attraction.

A stroll along Thayer Street is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening in Providence. Lots of shops, restaurants, and of course, the Avon Cinema. Always a good time.

Really funky, fun area with a great vibe and cool shops and cages, nice range of prices and great food selection. Close to the train too, be sure to check out Spectrum india for spiritual fun and if you are considering something a little wild, Rockstar piercing is absolutely awesome - great service, decent prices, lovely staff and minimal pain! Really comprehend follow up too.

Right off of Brown and Rhode Island School of Design's campuses, Thayer Street is four blocks of quirky shops and restaurants. Well.. quirky, plus Starbucks, CVS, Urban Outfitters, Chipotle, and Ben and Jerry's. Take a walk through Brown University's classically beautiful campus, then drop by Thayer street for a bite to eat. East Side Pockets always has a long line - locals know this is the place for great grub. Personally, I love grabbing a slice of pizza at Antonio's (try the Avocado Quesadilla and/or Chicken Bacon Ranch!) Then, the English Cellar is a great place for a casual drink in the evening. Before heading back to the car (park off Brown Street) drop in to A Pleasant Surprise and Pie in the Sky for a fun gift/souvenir.
