If you like to take quiet scenic walks you will want to visit here. It also has a beach and a boat dock off of the beach in addition to lots of other areas of interest. I went just for the scenery and the nature trails and I was not disappointed! Get a map from the visitors center for the trails. They range from moderate to hard so the entire family can participate. I intend to go back for sure!

This is one of several state resort parks in Kentucky. This park is located between Dawson Springs and Hopkinsville, Kentucky and there is a beautiful drive to get to the lodge. The rooms and cabins are well kept and they have spent a lot of time upgrading their beach (on a lake) and their meeting rooms. On Wednesdays they host senior bingo at noon - offering a special price on the buffet lunch and then hosting bingo for a variety of prizes. One of the best items on the menu is their Kentucky Hot Brown. I've had them at several parks and restaurants across the state and theirs is one of the best, if not the best, I have found. The staff is very friendly and makes an effort to ensure you have a great time there, whether you are staying for a night or a week or just there to have a meal. They offer special events throughout the year, so watch for those!

My wife, dog and I recently spent 5 restful days at this beautiful Kentucky State Park. We rented a one bedroom cabin in the park located in an attractive nature setting. The cabin was well appointed, air conditioned, clean and properly maintained. One could do their own cooking just as you do at home or dine in the park lodge. Because of the heat and humidity, our outdoor activities were somewhat curtailed but this was not a bad thing since we are senior citizens so felt free to do little more than just rest, walk, read, watch tv and enjoy the surrounding nature. The facilities included hiking trails, a swimming pool, eighteen hole golf course, miniature golf course, canoeing and paddle boating. A beach with swimming in part of the lake is allowed. In addition, one could fish in the lake. The restaurant served very good meals with buffets on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. One thing that contributed to our stay was the friendliness of the staff. They seemed really interested in their guests having a good visit. Even the manager took the time to talk with us. We do recommend this place and look forward to returning.

I go here to ride horses! They have some great trails! You can also take the family camping; they have great facilities. This is one of the beautiful spots in Western KY that you need to visit!

We just spent 3 days at the resort park. Resort meaning it has a swimming pool and miniature golf, and a beach. Also a decent restaurant. We are RV campers, and as others have mentioned, the sites are not very level [necessary for your fridge and doors to work correctly] Water and electric is on site - sewer at the dump station. The bathrooms are very tired, though there is plenty of hot water.

We traveled in early August to spend a nice 'away' weekend at Pennyrile, unfortunatley for us in the midst of an extremely unusual rainy summer season. We stayed in the lodge and enjoyed the wildlife, and views of the lake. This is one of the smaller parks in the KY system, with some hiking trails, a brown lake, and some paddle boats available. The pool area is clean, small but nice, and the fact they will allow family pets ( if requested) is a definite perk. The ' beach' area is tiny and requires you either hike or drive to get to it, as do most of the beginnings for the trails. The food at dinner was PHENOMENAL - great southern style buffet.Breakfast continental style is a satisfactory. If you're looking for a truly quiet get away - a weekend to lay low, walk a lot and/or commune with the wildlife this spot would work. But overall I'd recommend a park on one of the larger lakes for more to do and more convenience.

We camped there for three nights and were the only campers in the park! It is a lovely wooded area and we took some of the easier hikes. A lot of them are quite steep. The pads for RVs are mostly not level, either side to side or front to back. There is a beach area on the lake with a roped off area for swimming. Also a bath house and restroom. Very nice with picnic tables and a shelter. No cell phone service in the park and wi fi only at the lodge. We enjoyed a few days of being disconnected.

Depending on what you're looking for in a "State Resort Park", this one may fall short of your expectations. In its defense, however, this region of Western Kentucky is victim to a depressed economy, and access to resources is difficult in general, so any state-sponsored outdoor 'activities' are going to be hit-or-miss. The positives: 1) It's a beautiful setting for an outdoor wedding, and the lodge is neat and clean. 2) The beach is open again (closed the entire 2012 season due to bacteria in the water, from what I was told), so that was definitely a bonus! There is a pool next to the lodge if you prefer, but I enjoyed the rock-cliff backdrop of the beach area better. The negatives: if you're not interested in swimming, there's not much else to do. The lake is far too small for any trophy fish, and the only trail we could find was around the lake, and it was poorly marked and not maintained.

This is an ok place to go if you want to take a walk or just look at the forest. I don't think there is anything fabulous about it. We took the dogs for a walk and that was about it.
