The horses were wonderful and so friendly. The service was great we were able to call the day of and they got us out on the trail that day. We did a 2 hr. ride and it was perfect! We got to walk and trout through mammoth cave national park! Great people there!
We had family visiting the area and everyone went to Double J to experience the Horses and Trails In Mammoth Cave National Park. Dave, Rocky, and the rest of the staff were very friendly, the horses were great with lots of personality and made my families experience one to remember. We will be back and my nieces now are planning on the girls horse camp next summer.
Super friendly staff, nice ride through national park. Paid for a 90 minute ride and got a 90 minute ride, didn't count our time getting settled on the horses like some places.
This is definitely a horseback ride I'd do again and again. The location is truly unbeatable. We did a cave tour in the morning then used the (free) green fairy (runs all day) to cut across the park to Double J Stables. The property and horse living quarters are in pristine condition. The national park trail backs up to the property, which the owners also live on. It was a beautiful ride, friendly tour guide and well cared for horses. There's also a playground and campsite for those with their own horses. This was so much better than riding in the middle of Cave City tourist town. You're really out in the country and get to see another part of the park.
My boyfriend treated me to a 4.5 hour trail ride at Double J for my birthday and we had an absolutely WONDERFUL time! Dave was pleasant to talk to and Jason our guide was confident and knowledgeable. The stables and campground were clean and tidy, they had the horses ready and waiting at the appointed time, and both Dave and Jason were excited to have us there. The ride itself was absolutely beautiful! The national park is gorgeous. The horses acted perfectly and we had no problems with the ride. The price was excellent as well! Most certainly a good deal. I can't wait to go again! Double J comes with my highest recommendation.
I called Double J to ask about horse back riding while vacationing in Kentucky. Dave the owner answered. He was distracted during the call and holding other conversations while on the phone with me, and was generally not very polite. We went out there the next day for a one hour ride. Dave drove up in his golf cart, dressed up all nice and pretty with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, and asked what we wanted, not even a "hello". When I inquired about a one hour ride for our family Dave informed us you needed reservations two days in advance. When I asked why he didn't mentioned this during our phone call the day before, he said there was no such phone call and then he became irate. No apology for the inconvenience, or alternative suggestions, just a general sour attitude. My wife and son were very disappointed, especially after the hour plus ride to get there from our hotel. So, we drove from there to Mammoth Cave Adventures. They were friendly and took us out riding right away. They were a little more expensive than Double J would have been, but it was totally worth it. Obviously customer satisfaction was not important to Dave at Double J, and it showed. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone purely based on the way I was treated. Save yourself the trouble and go to one of the many other riding stables in the area that are not only closer to all other attractions, but where they will also treat you with a little hospitality and respect.
My sister and I came to double j stables to ride Friday morning of Father's Day weekend.we were camping at jelly stone. It was close and sounded perfect for what we wanted. We chose 3 hour ride which turned out to be just us. Our guide Kenny was friendly and courteous. The horses and barn were some of the cleanest, most taken care of animals I have come across. I have been around horses for the better part of my life and actually volunteer in a therapy barn so for me to be impressed took a lot! The scenery was typical of the area. Trees, grass more trees... But we like to ride for the quiet and love of just riding. We got to trot and do some loping on the way back to the barn. We ended this visit with a purchase of some fresh eggs laid by their own hens. They were delicious for morning breakfast. Definitely a highlight from our trip was a visit to these stable. Perfect and thanks Dave and guide Kenny! :)
I arrived on the 12th super early and Dave the owner and Paul one of the guides meet me. Dave said I could hang around and make myself at home or their was a place to go shopping just down the road. I decided to stay I didnt feel like moving the car and just wanted to relax. I took a pinic table across from one of the fields they have the horses in an made myself at home. A few minutes before the ride I may my way back up the barn and meet the others who would be riding with me. The whole ride was well worth what I paid and I loved the whole thing. Dave and Paul couldnt have made me feel anymore comfortable and at home. I will def be back and will tell everyone this is the place to go.
I recently made a reservation with Double J stables over the 4th. The day of my intended visit we all wole up late and my phone, with the double J number in it, was dead. Within the 1/2 hour it took to charge my phone enough toto turn itin on,the double J called and left 2 messages. I thought this was considerate of them. Before I could return their call however, a gentleman called from Double J again and began to chastise me for not calling them. By chastise I mean badger me for not calling them to tell them we weren't coming, to the point that I had to hang up the phone. I understand its a business and its a busy weekend, but trust me when I say, when you treat a prospective customer like that it is unprofessional no matter the circumstance. We will not be going there in the future when we can visit any of the stables within a minute of them and receive wonderful and kind service. It's a shame Double J.
We were staying 45 min. away from here but decided to drive anyway. So worth it!!! Rocky and Dave were warm wonderful people who have been one of the lucky few getting to live their dream. Growing up with horses I can whole-heartedly say their place was spotless and welcoming and beautiful. Our 2 hour ride was well worth the money as riding through Mammoth Cave Park was wonderful. Perfect for novice riders seeking a longer ride. I would like a little more adventure and would upgrade to the 3 1/2 hour at least and if you can make the time the 5 hour ride. The wranglers were great and so full of heart and knowledge. If I'm ever in the area I would make it a point to come here again. I felt like they were great friends that I was visiting and would miss.
We couldn't come to Kentucky and not go horseback riding. We chooseDouble J because it had good reviews on here and the price was right. Needlesstosay it lived up to the reviews. Dave met us when we arrived and got us all set up. We took the 1 1/2 hour ride with Krchelle as our guide. It was a very peaceful ride and great for first time riders. My husband had never been riding before and was a bit nervous about it at first, but in the end he enjoyed it so much and is already talking about going again.
My grandson and I took the five hour horseback ride and loved it. A shady trip, peaceful and quiet. Our guide was Natalie and she was just great.
I was a first time camper with my horses. The owners were amazing! Dave (one of owners) backed, parked and unhooked my trailer for me because I was nervous. It took a big weight off my shoulders. They checked on us and offered to bring us ice and firewood. The prices are so incredibly low and worth it. The access trail is right there. They have showers and bathrooms and great places to pen or stall your horses. I highly recommend this place. I myself will be going back!
When we checked into the Mammoth Cave Hotel, we were given a brochure for the Double J Stables, advertising a campground and horse back riding. I'd done some research online here at TripAdvisor and was a bit concerned with the other stables ratings. The Double J reviews were good, so we went with them.I called on a Monday, not knowing that they are closed. I left a message about a possible Tuesday reservation and got a call back on Monday night. We decided to do an hour and a half ride on Tuesday due to the ages of the grandkids (6 and 9) and the fact that the rest of the party wasn't very experienced either. When we arrived on Tuesday we were greeted by the owner Dave and our guide, Krchelle. Both were friendly and after we filled out the required paperwork and paid, our party of 6 were matched to our horses. We ran the gamut from incredibly tame (Casper which the 6 year old rode) to Coco, who I think was a little more spirited. All in all, though they were all gentle and followed one another closely, it was still exactly what I wanted. I wanted my grandkids to experience the fun of riding drama-free, so that will want to go again and again till they can enjoy a more spirited journey. The trail entered the north side of Mammoth Park and that was awesome - we got to see part of the park that we would never have seen otherwise.I'm not sure, but I believe if you are more experienced, there were other trails in the park and possibly more lively horses to ride. I'm sure you could contact the stable and get that information. I found them to be very approachable and kind.We had a good long ride, but in retrospect I should have only chosen an hour ride - some of the older members of the party were fine, but the kids became a little bored at about the hour mark. Very friendly people and a great experience for us all. Highly recommended!
Kids love horses. I am not a horse person, but I fell in love with these. Easy to ride, very calm. We had never ridden before this trip and we all loved it! Dave, the owner, was so flexible when I called to reserve our trip. He gave a great recommendation on the two hour trip, given my kids ages, 8 and 9. I wanted to start the day a little later and given that the season is a little slower and he didn't have any reservations already that day, he accomodated. Our guide, Crishelle (sp?), was great with the kids and answering any questions we had. Everyone was very friendly, and we got to see a different region of the park (north) that the kids wouldn't have the stamina to hike. I think that this was money well spent. My kids agree. When we return to the region, we will do this again, without a doubt.
