You wouldn't necessarily think of a dam as a place to visit, but one of the reasons we moved to this area is because of the Kentucky dam are. There is that dam, for walking, biking, sight seeing, bird watching, fishing. Then there is the resort and restaurant that everyone forgets about. Top notch service, accommodations and great food. Several times a year there are fairs and or special activities that we try to attend. Then the beaches, marina, trails, golf course. Nearby there is hunting, antiquing and many small towns to visit. So much to do in such in such a beautiful area. All right in close proximity.
I do not know if they are still giving tours of the dam itself but well worth it if they are. The area is filled with good places to stay, eat, and enjoy outdoor recreation at reasonable prices.
it was a very interesting place to visit , and see how the mechanics of the dam worked . it also gave a history in the making of it .
good place to catch some big fish or just hang out it s free and relaxing i enjoy going just keep a close eye on children theres nothing to prevent them from falling in and currents are strong
My family and I had fun visiting the Kentucky Dam. Seeing the dam, alone, was fun for our two small children. The experience was made more interesting by visiting the exhibits on the ground floor of the dam. I'm told that visitors used to gain entry to the inner chambers of the dam itself, but that practice has been stopped due to security reasons. Picnic tables and plenty of space are available outside, if you choose to use them. Overall, the site doesn't take very long, but it's an excellent experience if you're in the area.
The sights of the dam was very interesting, imagining how it all works and the mechanics behind it. Did not like to see the array of dead fish from the flood years ago
What a treat. Nice visitor center, you can drive over the dam, and look at the spill way from a fairly close distance.
Loved just taking our lawn chairs and just sitting. It was peaceful to watch the boats go buy. The beach was closed. ..not sure why it was 80.
Things have changed dramatically since I grew up in this area. I recall the days when you could go down inside the dam and see the turbines as they generated electricity. That is past history. There used to be a road that would could drive from one end of the dam to the other. There is now a new bridge just downstream. The area was very popular several decades ago however with the lack of enthusiasm the area had not shown that great of an expansion. Some of the hotels in the immediate areas are not all that great, restaurants are mainly those that have been there for years and the beach area where hundreds used to flock to on week ends draws almost no one. This is primarily an area that you can drive through, see some nice scenery and basically enjoy the area. There area still a few eating places worth lunch and best of all the area will not be all that crowded.
Recently visited Kentucky Dam to watch the annual fireworks display, great place to watch from, plenty of room for the kiddos to run and play!!!
