If you are a railroad buff and would like to see and touch history, this is the place to go. Beautifully restored station.

Here you will learn lost about the old western railroads. You will also see many interesting displays and photos. There are also some videos and a cool gift shop! If trains and history interest you, check this place out

The history of the Northern Pacific in Livingston is recounted in this museum and I as delighted at having learned so much--in spite of only a passing interest in trains. Well worth the price of admission.

Well set out museum giving the history of railways to Livingston and Yellowstone, and the Northern Pacific Railroad in general. No preserved locomotives or rolling stock but lots of local photos and other memorabilia

I love old train stations and this was a good one. The restoration is excellent and the museum is good without being too much even for children. And I loved the gift shop.

Great restoration of a historic railroad depot. The story of how private donors made it happen is interesting also. There is no charge but they do take donations. Lots of railroad artifacts and if you go upstairs there is an exhibit about movies made in the area. Keep in mind, it's a small town and they don't always open on time

Livingston Depot Center Museum is the "crown jewel" of Livingston's historic district -- a 100-year-old depot built by the Northern Pacific Railway to greet the thousands of visitors who once came this way to visit Yellowstone National Park. The museum is open during the summer months and is “free” with very interesting Northern Pacific (NP) Railway history in Montana – “Lots of exhibits and very Educational”. There is a very interesting “detailed” model train display in the basement next to the Depot building. Grab a bit to eat and/or a cup of coffee across the street at Gil’s Goods (good food and wine), the atmosphere is “similar to a European style cafe, with the heart of Montana”. The service is casual, friendly, and detailed. Then check-out the nearby historic Murray Hotel & bar.

Great little museum! Really liked that it was compact and well rounded. The display on train snow plows was my favorite.

Excellent displays here and the building has also been restored quite nicely, especially the mosaic panels. The exterior is really quite beautiful with the pillars and fencing. You get the feeling of what it must have been like to catch a passenger train and travel to Yellowstone here. A must see!

My son really enjoyed this. Lots of exhibits and very educational. It was clean and easy to see all exhibits. So nice that it is free. The movie exhibit upstairs was not worth the walk.

The Depot Center is the "crown jewel" of Livingston's historic district -- a 100-year-old depot built by the Northern Pacific Railway to greet the thousands of visitors who once came this way to visit Yellowstone National Park. The community -- with assistance from various private, state and federal sources, restored the structure in 1987, to create a community center and railway museum, highlighting the railroad's role in the development of this part of the West. The museum is open to the public, free of charge, from late May to mid-September, and well worth a visit.

The museum is not huge, but contains some very interesting and informative displays. While some of the static displays of period uniforms and settings didn't engage my 8 year old twins, the sittable installation of the control panel and chair from a steam locomotive could have entertained them for hours...you could see them visualizing themselves in control of a 100-car train coming out of the mountains with logs or coal! The staff was friendly and willing to engage the kids, even when they were ransacking the gift shop, trying to decide what train set to buy with their own money.

Informative exhibits in this free museum on history of train stations in Montana. Lots of great old pictures and artifacts from golden age of rail travel.

We stopped at this free musuem, not a fan of musuems to begin with and the kids were bored so we didn't stay long. However... you must check out the model train display in the basement next to the building. The museum will tell you about it. The display is AMAZING and you'll never see anything like it again!
