really fun place to hangout at the end of the day. you can bring in drinks, as long as it's not glass, and have a good time with other travelers. 3 different pools with 3 different temperatures so you can always find one that fits you well.
Thank you Jackson for your hospitality, great cooking and wonderfully interesting conversation! The ghost history was fascinating! I highly recommend this as a MUST place to visit while in the area or passing through!
After a day of snowboarding at Maverick Mountain, the Elkhorn Lodge was a welcome surprise! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The lodge accommodations were very comfortable and inviting...we felt warmth all over first thing walking in the front door. The hot springs were just what our tired muscles were begging for...and the food was awesome. The dinner presentation was impressive and the taste just as great..the roasted organic squash was my favorite...mydaughter loved herperfectly done NY. We will definitely return to this gem in the mountains!
Rustic and affordable had the time of my life like being home with family kicking it.The sauna ,106 hot water that you soak in while inside a sauna genius, the outside pools 104and102 with snow all around ,elk passing bye as we soak and sking close
Celebrating our anniversary here and it is very rustic and quiet. Very good meal and pools and facility are nice.
I like this place a lot, but its not fancy. The people running it can change from year to year, since they have to bid it, but, this set were very nice. You can stay in cabins or in the lodge. The price is very affordable. If you like camping in the rough this should work. The setting is beautiful and after a hard day of hiking or digging for crystals(about 5 miles away) nothing is better than climbing into the hot springs to relax. Deer and animals are everywhere, and at night you will not believe the sky-amazing. I really enjoyed my stay here.
The first time we visited Elkhorn Hot Springs was 25 years ago. We just made our first return trip since then. There have been huge improvements since we were last there. We stayed in the lodge above the restaurant. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The changing room and shower for the hot springs has been recently redone and is clean and functional. The pools were also very clean. If someone is looking for an upscale spa for two to three times the price I wouldn't recommend Elkhorn. If you want to meet interesting people, experience an authentic slice of Montana mountain life, eat tasty food, sleep in a comfortable bed and relax in a hot springs then I highly recommend Elkhorn Hot Springs.
If you are looking for The Ritz - stay in the city - If you are looking for truly wonderful vintage Montana resort you have found your place!I used to stay here on occasion as a child in the 60's & 70's. I was on a road trip and decided to check the place out again after a few decades. I was pleasantly surprised. I chose a room in the lodge. The room while rustic -was clean -had a new bed - AND the drapes actually matched the bedspread (G) - oh and located right above the bar - made for great eavesdropping after I retired for the evening. <G> I stayed 3 nights. And will visit again. The staff was very accommodating - they made sure I knew where the ice machine and water was and told me if I wanted a beverage in the night just come down and help myself - other than water just mark it on the pad on the bar and pay up in the morning. I was also shown how to make the morning coffee in the event I were to get up early and want coffee before the staff arrived at 7am. Each evening after my soak I'd return to the Lodge and the staff person would have a glass if wine waiting for me.Breakfast is included - my room was a mere $35 a night - such a deal! I bought dinner each night. The chef was exceptional and the cuisine was exemplary - comparable to any 4 & 5 star restaurant in the city. On Saturday night they offered a prime rib dinner that was out of this world and the French Onion Soup was made the way French Onion Soup should be made with a whole onion - cheese - and croutons - from scratch. I was very impressed!I found the pool house to be clean and remodeled. The pools were clean and very relaxing. There was a black algae that blossoms on the bottoms of the pools that happens naturally. The pools are drained and cleaned every Monday and Tuesday to keep this algae in check. The water was clear and clean. ( when growing up the water used to be green and cloudy) I found the Elkhorn Hot Springs Resort to be clean - inviting - accommodating - and having great food and atmosphere. It is vintage Montana rustic at it's best! I highly recommend this resort - good job guys!George Thomas Gale - Beaverton Oregon
Visited Elkhorn Hot Springs and restaurant for the first time recently. The pools were clean, (old but kept up), variety of temps depending on the pool. The restaurant was exceptional with a chef that was top notch! The salmon special on Saturday evening was amazingly delicious! They get their potatoes from Hamer, Idaho and hand cut the fries, yummmm. The owners/operators are so nice, very accommodating, let us use their wi-fi to get our Montana 2 day fishing license and print it out, and very helpful on information reguarding surrounding activities. We stayed 4 days camping outside of the hot springs, but used the pools and ate at the restaurant. The cabins were so cute! We found lots of stuff to do around the area. Can't wait to go back! :)
We stayed in the "Modern" Cabin, which meant it had indoor plumbing! It was really fun! They are small and rustic, but near Crystal Park and other great outdoor fun! We really enjoyed the hot springs and the breakfast buffet the next morning! Perfect for our family!
Just stayed for a soak but found the water was to hot to stay longer than 20 minutes. Its a beautiful setting, remote, quiet when the kids aren't screaming and jumping in the pool. Only half the pool was really used as the deep end had black scum on the bottom and no one wanted to use it.
We stopped in to see what Elkhorn Hot Springs was on our way through. The place is terribly run down, there is no indoor plumbing or water in all but one of the cabins, the furniture in them was worn and dirty. The outhouses looked really iffy, like they had not been maintained in many years. The young woman behind the desk told us that the cabins have been "deliberately kept as rustic as they were when they were built decades ago." Run down is more the term I would use. The pool had a carpet of green scum on the bottom and the showers in the pool house were just plain worn out and sketchy regarding cleanliness. The location gives this place some real possiblities if it was just taken care of.
Elkhorn hot springs is located on a gorgeous piece of land. The views are stunning and it was a beautiful place to sit and relax. We started at the restaurant. It's a long cabin style place with a huge front porch with a couple outdoor tables and a big bench porch swing. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Good choice. The restaurrestaurant was packed! When we arrived there was only one man there trying to serve all the guests. So service took awhile, but he did a great job making sure he got to everyone as fast as possible. I wasn't in a hurry so I was ok with the wait. While waiting we drank coffee and sat on the porch swing. What a wonderful evening.Another girl finally came to help the gentleman out and that definitely helped. She was very friendly and did a great job accommodating guests. The cheeseburger was great. I'd eat at the restaurant again if I was around. The pool really turned me off. A large portion of the pool was green and scummy. I ended up deciding to not get in for this reason. I'm not very finicky, I swim in undeveloped hot springs all the time, but this just looked bad like a house pool that someone abandoned. I think that EHHS has so much potential. If they cleaned the place up a bit it'd really help. I'd like to see this place again if the owners did something about that pool.
Love being out in the middle of no where soak in a hot spring enjoying the beauty of the landscape around me
Very relaxing after a day digging crystals. I hear it is best in the winter time after a day skiing at Maverick Mountain - hoping to make it back to experience that for myself!
