We went to the Archives area to do some genealogy research. Elizabeth a McMullen helped us find information on our family and couldn't have been more helpful. This is a donation only facility and they have a lot of information. They have quite a lot of selections in their gift shop that we visited. This facility if beautiful and everyone is really friendly. We will be back if we are ever in the area again, hopefully so. Lewisburg is a beautiful city with lot of antique shops and great restaurants.

We were on a return trip, to IL. and decided to stop in Lewisburg for a little break. We saw a sign pointed the way to historical downtown and decided to check it out. Very glad we did. The town itself is really neat with all the antique malls (and I mean old antiques), but the visitor center was awesome. It was large, clean, and the lady was very nice and helpful. She is the one to tell us about seeing the North House, and we were so glad. It is a time capsule for civil war buffs and sets right next to the first Carnegie Hall. Our guide Amy was a southern peach, and really had some tales to tell of the homes history. It was the first place that delivered mail, and a lady that lived there did it in her buggy. There's a gun, a man made that is about six feet long and he filled it with silverware, bolts, etc. He figured just seeing the thing would scare the enemy, but when he actually fired it they ran. These are just 2 examples of interesting things to learn. I had broken my wrist, so to climb the stairs to the 2nd story would have been a chore, but dear Amy took us up and down on the elevator. We had to get back on the road and couldn't tour Carnegie Hall, but so glad we visit this great little town. Thanks again Amy 10/9

The staff in the archives room are the best-especially Jim Talbert. He knows his way around the resources and is so patient with people and their stories.

No matter how many times we visit Lewisburg, we always stop here to see what's new. The staff is amazing and are always willing to help guide you to interesting attractions or share a tidbit of history! A must see for sure!

This lovely home has been converted into a wonderful house museum that contains many unexpected finds! The staff is knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. I was very impressed that they have an elevator for guests who are unable to use the stairs. The furnishings are beautiful, and the changing exhibit room is very interesting. There is a nice gift shop, clean bathrooms, and archive room & a true West Virginia welcome. We came away feeling delighted! You really should make this your first stop in Lewisburg!

Unusually good for this type of museum. My wife liked the old furniture, etc.; I liked the old pioneer artifacts; actually went there to see the big gun used at Ft. Donnelly. The guided tour was excellent, and there is a room off tour with files of historic material which may be viewed by request, if desired.Visited July 2012, family reunion.Photos not encouraged.Book and Gift shop available.

This museum was really neat. The guided tour was very informative and I learned a lot of new stuff about the area while looking and historical items.

This one is an old manor house furnished in the upper class English tradition that you see in places like Williamsburg and Mount Vernon, although it is not quite that old. We often stop at museums of this type, and don't expect to get much out of it. this case, we had a personal tour from a very knowledgeable woman, and as we know a few things ourselves, it turned out to be a mutual exploration of a way of life that was instrumental in this nation's history. Strongly recommended.
