The only complaint I would offer for this center is that it is located on the second/upper level. We did not have trouble walking the steps, but maybe others would. There must be an elevator in that building that we did not see. The collection of local artist's works was complete and well arranged. The light was also adequate. Service was friendly. ---worth a 10 minute exit from the interstate if you want to view a good amount of local artisan works!
lovely old warehouse restoration...beautifully done on the inside...nice attempt at wheeling history, but also difficult to follow...kind of spotty and all over the place...very kind and helpful lady in the gift shop...as with most gift shops, items are over~priced...
The outside of the building appears to be small. When you enter, the area is large and 3 stories. It was a beautiful place for the wedding reception.
The Artisan Center is in a lovely old building. Just the old building is quite a sight. The artifacts are lovely and there were so many things I would have liked to take home. Around the floor are exhibits of how things used to be. Very informative and well worth taking in.
Great sampling of Arts and artisans in a cool building. Glass to wood to textiles. A little bit of history and a fun restaurant too!
First off my gps could not find this place for some reason and then trying to find parking was challenging. The actual building has very little of it's historical things left in it, but still neat to think of it being around so long. The selection of locally made products was impressive and I was able to find some nice gifts and a candle for myself. If you care to learn more about Wheeling there are historical figures you can pick from and then learn about as you walk through the 2nd floor where the shopping is. There are some fun signs about Wheeling on the first floor in the restaurant but I strongly suggest NOT eating there. Service was so-so even though we were at the bar getting take out! I discovered upon returning to the hotel that I never got my side and my sandwich was so awful I couldn't eat it! My friend's food was mediocre. If you are desperate for something to eat and have no other options, stick with the appetizers there.
A must visit for someone who wants to see how paintings are done and different scenes visualized. The paintings were very good and the photos even better. I will be bringing my daughter here as she likes to paint a lot.
Nice restaurant downstairs and shopping area along with small museum area upstairs. Always find good jewelry and gifts produced locally and several area specific history books.
Housed in an old wear house in old down town. The restaurant and bar on the ground floor serves up a variety of good food. The waiters do a very good job and are very courteous. The top floors hold crafts from local crafters and artisans. Parking around the restaurant is not ver good.
The Wheeling Artisan Center is a nice stop when visting Wheeling, WV. It is surrounded by lots of little antique and other speciality shops. We spent the better part of the day going in and out of the shops and talking with the local baker connected to the Artisan Center. Try the cookies and soup! It was a nice day and we enjoyed ourselves. Not a place for small kids really - they will be bored - nice trip for adults.
Another destination in any Wheeling stop that I highly recommend. It is more for adults as far as I could see, and plan to walk around for an hour or two to view all the crafts and historical exhibits. There was an old fashioned brewery pub on the first floor that I did not go in but it looked enticing, the Artisan Center was upstairs in this older building that was obviously well maintained.Lots of West Virginia history, crafts, etc to see.
As a boy sent here to retrieve "Colemans fish"on Fridays as a youth, there is always something to see, eat, shop, experience an original concept of a well developed Market-House from the 19th century.Colemans is still there and growing throughout the state, and still as good, famous to our area.As well, you owe it to yourself to visit the "Lebanese Bakery" a block east, been there since the 20's,meat pies(homeade from scatch everyday) and several types of Baklava using regional honeys with seasonal influences from flowers or the apple orchards.I'd drive an hour for these treats and have and will.
Good food in the restaurant on the first floor. The upper floors really only come to life during the Celtic Festival.
This is a combination of a store focused on items related to Wheeling and WV and a mini-museum of Wheeling history. The museum portion is designed around the lives of several characters from Wheeling history. It is designed for you to pick one character when you enter and then follow his or her life at each exhibit but I chose to read about every character at each exhibit. The museum exhibits are scattered through the shop. The exhibits gave a good picture of life in early Wheeling, focusing on several types of manufacturing and also providing information about labor history. The shop sells a wide variety of items and features several books about West Virginia that are not widely available. This is a nice stop for an hour or two while in Wheeling. There is no admission cost. It is located on the second floor of the building, just go up the escalator you see when you enter the building.Parking is at meters on the street and we easily found a nearby parking spot on a weekday.
