You can tell that the owner Mike and his wife have a tremendous love and passion for all of their animals. They are immaculately cared for and well maintained. We had a wonderful time hand feeding the large variety of animals ranging from bison, deer, miniature goats and horses to zonkys ( horse/donkey). There are far too many to list! Mike gave an incredibly informative tour of all the big cats, wolves, and bear. He climbed the fence to show us how high a liger could stretch and we watched a bangle tiger leap up at least 12 feet to catch a roast he tossed to it. The bears ate marshmallows from his mouth and almost all the animals ran directly over to him to be pet and loved on. We had the best experience and appreciate all that they do to ensure the happiness of its animals. We were shocked that they only charge $10! For what you receive and what I'm sure it cost to feed all the animals and provide toys, that seemed shockingly low, so make sure if you can to donate to this amazing operation!!
Stationed down at Fort Rucker there is very little in the area to do with your kids. Stumbled upon this place during my internet searching, was a little dubious to try it, but went anyway. It was a scorching hot day, but the lady in admissions was kind enough to give the kids a free bottle of water. The kids LOVED feeding the animals. It's way out there, but a nice little afternoon trip for the kids.
This is the best zoo experience you'll ever have. If you are ever near this place it is well worth stopping. We drove an hour to get here and all 9 of us loved it.
THis is more than a zoo, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls. On 100+ acres of his own personal land, Mike and and wife run this critter zoo. It has gentle petting animals to some of the most ferocious zoo animals. It is a drive to the middle of nowhere, but it is far worth the 1 and 1/2 hours we travelled to visit! Mike really makes it a show- he knows these animals personally! You will see up close and personal interactions and hear plenty of stories! It is fun for both kids and adults alike! You CAN'T miss this! It is worth the small fee to get in. Suggestion: buy the extra feed bucket- you will get an even closer look of the animals! Bring a picnic lunch for yourself, as there aren't restaurants around. Plan to spend AT least 1/2 a day here!!! AND ENJOY!!!
I have visited the zoo on two occasions. They have a variety of animals and they are well taken care of and seem happy. I could tell Mike and his wife love their animals very much and they are like their babies. They both took the time to talk with us and we were able to feed a baby goat and watched Mike feed the bears marshmallows. I visited the zoo because I had a marmoset monkey that needed to be placed someone with someone that would take care of him. They took my little monkey and loved him immediately. I can see him whenever I would like. They are amazing people. I love this place!!
We love McLellands! What an exciting day trip for all ages! The owner and lover of his animals gives a great presentation! He spends a quality amount of his personal time with each guest to make sure you get a great experience! Anyone who lives or is visiting within a, let's say, 3 hour radius, is missing out if you never visit!
We drove 2 hours to visit a friend in the area, and see this zoo. I would not complain about making the trip again next weekend! This place is amazing. I hesitate to call it a zoo, exactly, because it is so much more laid back and interactive. It's a privately owned zoo, and the owner gives tours and talks about each animal, their personalities, preferences and dangers. The owner is very laid back and entertaining and seems to truly love all of his animals. The property is not clean and state of the art like larger, corporately funded zoos but it is well maintained and all of the animals appear healthy AND happy. (Except Chucky the monkey. Go visit and you will understand!)My whole family got to pet and hold a baby alligator and pet a baby lion! My girls are too young to understand what a rare opportunity that was with the lion, but it definitely stands out as an amazing experience for ME! Highly recommend visiting McClelland's!
I was in the area and browsing trip advisor for things to do and found McClelland's Critters Zoo. The Zoo has lots of animals and friendly owners. I definitely will make this a Tradition to visit the zoo every 6 months or so. I Suggest you visit in the mornings or when it is cooler outside.
This was an awesome experience. Very hands on! Our two year old LOVED being able to hold the snakes, baby alagator, and baby lion cub. He got to ride a turtle and feed the camel, buffalo, and many other animals they had. The owners were very people friendly and gave us a wonderful tour. The price if definitely worth it since all procedes go toward feeding the animals and maintenance. Highly recommended!
I took my five year old daughter here to see the baby lion. We picked a perfect day to visit. Paid the normal entrance fee and bought a bucket of tubers to feed the animals. Total amount was $21. Not a bad deal at all. The African tortoise was laying eggs. My daughter went in the pen and got up close and personal. We also opted for a private session with the baby lion. She spent quite a while holding Thor, the lion cub, and I enjoyed it as well. So much to see with deer, emu, ostrich, camel, buffalo, monkeys, lemurs, birds, bears, and more big cats than I could count. The owners mike and Angie are so gracious. Mike gave us an incredible tour. Angie went out of her way to get sunscreen for my daughter. We will definetly return soon !
The animals of a big zoo plus some with guided tour..... Plus a chance to hold any of the various animal babies that are born on site throughout the year
