This place is way out in the woods and my time share was supposed to be part of this golf course. That is the reason I booked this resort...but low and behold, this is NOT a resort! The resort went bankrupt about 10 years ago and the place now is condos with 2 time share units...one unit has 4 one bedrooms and the other unit has 4 2 bedroom units, and all around them are these very nice condos! The time share units were built in the 50's (I am guessing by their looks) and re-painted in the 70's, they are falling apart...the manager called them "rustic", I left the next morning...they are not ever a 1 star place...NEVER, NEVER, believe Interval International...they still call it a resort and their pictures...WOW they are ever so nice...yeah, get a life...they would not give me a refund at all, even though they lied through their teeth...beware, beware...
It was way to overpriced and the course is in horrible condition. The greens are impossible to putt on and the fairways are torn to pieces, they need to sell the course.
This is one of the most challenging courses that I have played! It was extremely challenging for our group but time after time we would drive up to the tee offs and say, "Wow!" I can't brag about the score but this is a day of golf that I will always remember! I am not that well versed in course conditions but we felt the course looked very good. Very interesting and challenging greens. I would like to see a restroom available on the front nine.
Bermuda greens were in great shape; finally got the chemicals right. Fairways and bunkers leave a little to be desired but you can always find a decent lie in the fairway. Looks like they're preparing to put sand in the bunkers.
I have a house on Lake Martin and have played Stillwaters for years and it has gone down hill steadily. They are not using fertilizer, weed control or bug control and it appears that all they do is mow the weeds to keep them short. The greens are in awful shape with many areas where the grass has died and small patches of some other grass that is impossible to putt through. The layout has some promise with some funky holes but it is in a death spiral. For an additional $15 for a round of golf go to Opelika and play Grand National.Unless they get a new owner that is willing to invest money into rehabbing the course it is going to continue to decline.
Stinks. The place is a goat ranch. Layout has potential but greens are weedy, sand traps are not manicured or raked. The place blows.
Tee'd it up here in May only to turn around after the first hole. The course is in the worst condition I personally have ever seen. There a not even any yardage markers. Good luck guessing your distances. I explained the situation to the actual owner and she said she was sorry however she was not returning my money. ($100) She admitted they have no money to the of the course. She offered me ONE of the cheapest golf shirts you have ever seen and I just left at that time. So unprofessional and down right criminal. There were 5 cars in the parking lot on Sunday at 12 noon, that should have been my sign...DO NOT SUPPORT THIS MISERABLE EXCUSE FOR A BUSINESS
We stay in Florida every Jan and Feb and always stay a week somewhere on the way home to Iowa. This year we couldn't find a place so we tried Sunset Point at Stillwaters Resort in Dadeville, AL. We had never heard of it and had trouble finding any reviews about the resort. When we arrived (it is in the middle of no where) we we pleasantly surprised at the resort and the golf course. It is on a huge lake and is obviously a summer resort so there were few people around in early March but the resort is great. The golf course had many great looking holes on it and very few players. Dadeville is a small town only 5 miles away but had everything we needed. We now plan on making this on stop on the way home every year.
