Thank you for your review. We are always seeking way to make our facility more user friendly and this is not possible without constructive criticism. Our main entrance seems like a one way narrow road but it is indeed a two way road. Our exit that was closed is a special event exit only used for Cross-Country Races when we are trying to usher 3,000 cars out of the park. We have recently added more signage to our park to improve traffic direction and are in the process of adding many new educational descriptions to many of our exhibits. We are a free museum site where visitors can guide themselves around. However, we do book group tours of 10 or more visitors for $2 a person. These tours guide visitors around our museum to the highlights and also guides them to our two large mounds. We hope that you will chose to visit the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center again to have an improved experience.

Thank you for your review. We do keep regular hours. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm, and Sunday noon to 4pm. We are closed for major holidays. Our local museum is very unique in that it is owned by the local Lawrence County School System. This is quite a rarity for museums and we are very proud that we have a school system that supports a public education venue. Our museum contains over 10,000 artifacts and our park contains a large burial mound and the third largest platform mound in the state of Alabama. Please visit our website OakvilleIndianMounds.com to learn more about what makes our museum unique.

Thank you for your review. Our annual Multicultural Indian Event, which many local residents call the Oakville Native American Festival, is always hosted the third Saturday in May.

Thank you for your review. We are very glad that your kids enjoyed the tour. We are famous for hosting the state high school 5K cross country race and also have an easier 1 mile trail to follow. Though our mounds are located several hundred yards away from the museum, patrons are welcome to drive to them instead of walking to them and are allowed to pull off on the side of the road to stop and learn about them.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed in our mounds. We have the third largest platform mound in the state of Alabama and we have a burial mound that is not only intact, but is topped with a historic cemetery from the 1840s with rare box tomb style stone markers. Our museum does not charge any admission fees and is owned by the local Lawrence County School System. We are proud that our school system has branched out and supports a public education venue. If patrons are wanting to learn more about our Indian mounds and staff are not busy with another tour group, we always happily guide patrons to the mounds and tell them more about their history, construction, and meaning. Trip Advisor patrons genuinely read reviews about museums before they visit and we would like to know more details as to why you were disappointed you so that we can improve our educational narratives.

Thank you for your review from 2010. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm, and Sunday noon to 4pm. We are closed for major holidays. I am not sure why the park was not open on the day you traveled here four years ago, but our hours are now standardized. I hope that you are able to try your journey to us again.
