Nice lake for fishing. Went for the scarecrow walk which offered golf carts for my father who has trouble walking. The ranger was very uninformed and kept giving us bad information. we finally drove around in our car and left.I wouldn't go out of my way for this park but it would be nice for a picnic in warm weather.

I love parks, so when passing through Opp, we had to stop by and check it out. What luck, the city had a very cute display of many different scarecrows strategically placed along the trails. This is a small park on a very scenic lake. There will still quite a few RV's but not too many people out. It was in the 30's so very chilly indeed.

We take the boat for short boat rides occasionally , because this is close to home.Might be a good fishing spot, we don't fish a lot so I am not sure. To yucky to swim on, although I see others swimming. And it is treacherous boating, have to really pay attention for stumps in the water. But it is a nice view for a small lake. And I really like their " scarecrows in the park" in the fall time.

If you are looking for a hidden gem in the state of Alabama then Frank Jackson State Park is the perfect find. We were completely blown away at the beauty and serenity of this small but perfect park. This 2050 acre park is bordered with a 1000 acre stream fed lake which is perfect for small boats and fishing. The water front RV sites are extremely cozy and create the stage for some stunning skies at dawn and dusk. There is a 15+ acre island with bridge access and hold some of the 4+ miles of walking trails.A special treat for us was the annual Scarecrows in the Park event. Over 400 community made scarecrows greet you along the walking paths throughout the park. Schedule your stop during October and November to catch a glimpse of this event that is unique to the state park family. If you are traveling Highway 331 North or South through Opp, Alabama you need to schedule a couple of days to make Frank Jackson State Park a stop along your way. You won't be disappointed.

Stopped in for the July 4th fireworks show. It was fantastic! Nice state park with a small swimming area, some playground equipment, a boat launch, nature trail, camping, and a nice little island that has breathtaking views.

My son and I met my parents here yesterday morning and stayed in their camper overnight. My first thought was how beautiful the lakeview was, only 50 feet from our camper. Upon arrival, I also noted how every camp site was perfectly angled, making easy back-up for a trailer. Within 5 minutes, though, I had stepped right onto a tiny ant pile and had hundreds of little black ants climbing all over my feet and legs. As I looked around, I noted they were everywhere! Little black sugar ants, or wood boring ants, or whatever you might call them. They don't bite, but they sure did become a nuisance! My mom keeps her camper trailer spotless. However, as I went inside to grab burgers to throw over the campfire at dinner time, I noticed black movement all over one of the counter tops where bananas were sitting. I looked down and saw black movement all over the dogs bowl of food. We quickly threw everything outside and exterminated with the inside and tried to spray the outside of the camper with the two cans of bug spray we had. Our lack of preparation for the ants, however, would not inhibit me from coming back here. I certainly would not camp in a tent, though! What I enjoyed about the place were the nature trails. Tons of beauty and nature to be seen here. At sunset, the fish were jumping like crazy in the lake behind us. So, definitely a great place to stay if youre into hiking and/or fishing. The park also has a double boat ramp, so boaters as well might enjoy this park.A couple other things I noticed and really liked: 1. I believe the park actually cuts downed trees into choppable logs for firewood. There were large piles of logs laying around. Each camp site had a fire pit, with logs conviently laying beside the fire pit. All we had to do was chop them into smaller bits. 2. Although the restrooms are a bit outdated and do not seem as well kept as most I've seen at other various state parks, this park has a unisex/family restroom/showeroom! Being a single mother with a young child of the opposite sex who primarily tent camps, I find this to be a huge bonus to other single parents with children of the opposite sex! For those of you in that same position, you know how big of a pain it can be when your child (mine's 8 yrs old) starts reaching that age where they are almost too old to be going in a public restroom for the opposite sex. But, at the same time, you really don't want to let them go in alone to shower when it's just the two of you at some strange place at night. The restrooms also had wheel chair access from certain camp sites, as well.3. The people in Opp, Al are just really nice people in general.4. There were hardly any other people there, so it felt like we had the entire state park to ourselves! What I didn't like was the swimming area. Anytime my son and I go camping, being right near a swimmable area is an absolute must. This water was kinda murky and the bottom kinda slimy. There were an overabundance of signs posted making you aware of snakes and alligators in the water. So, we really didn't want to go in. This is definitely a park to stay at during cooler temperatures. Temps where you arent so tempted to want to go swimming. Temps where, perhaps, the ants and spider webs arent as prominent.

Home away from home. This is a nice small State Park. Boat launch, picnic area, playground, swim area, paddle board area. Along with a nice RV campground, which has nice clean restrooms. The boat, playground area is a short walk from the RV area. Hence, it is quiet in the RV section. This park is about 30 miles from our home. It makes a great close getaway for us. We like it so much we may stay for a week or two, with me driving the short distance to my work and my husband commuting. Each site has a wonderful view of the lake. Two drawbacks-bring a Hudson sprayer filled with ant spray. Untreated, ants are a major issue. The second is scary. There are alligators and snakes around here. Heed the signs.

We made a short day visit to the state park on our way home from Montgomery. The park has some nice nature trails, a big lake suitable for swimming and fishing, and a small campground and playground. I look forward to visiting again, especially to visit the island in the middle of the lake.

This was our first visit to the State Park. We usually camp at Wind Creek State Park. The bath houses here are not as up to date as they are at Wind Creek, but they were spotlessly clean when we arrived Friday. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The park itself is beautiful and even full (as it was this weekend) it was quiet and peaceful. This is my new favorite state park in Alabama.

Went here with family on a weekend camping trip. Very nice quiet small park. Nice sites. Good sized. If you are looking to get away to a small camping area on the water this is it. Not much to do close by but it is what it is. We went with friends and hung out and fished and camped. Very pretty lake.Make sure when you pick a site it is on the lower level. It is shaded there. Top level area sites are in the sun.Guys at the local bait shop are very cordial!

This is the closest place to our home for RVs. Nice sites, easy parking, clean bathrooms, walking trails, and boating. We especially enjoy staying here during the fall. It is very pretty with the lake backdrop and fall colors. The local Trailmasters work hard preparing the trails for the many visitors that come for Scarecrows in The Park. Local businesses, schools, churches, clubs, as well as individuals, decorate areas in the park with homemade scarecrows of every type, style, and decor. Individuals, clubs, schools, families, visit and enjoy the beautiful outdoors, trails, and fall festive creative scarecrow displays. It is a family tradition now for our family!
