These people are delight & friendly. The mine is closed because of some government restrictions. But they have knock out crystals at cheap prices. I had read that the Mrs is a kick. And it is do true. What a dear woman and she will probably never know she is getting all this great press. I think it is a safe bet that they are not online . As she said, just simple country folk. Really nice people. I got a hug and a free gift crystal.

The mine was closed and has been for some time due to some government red tape. Call before you go to see if the red tape has been eliminated. Tables full of beautiful crystals were available to purchase and the prices were very reasonable. Dee was very hospitable and wandered through the tables with us expaining the mining and cleaning process. She is the true "jewel" of Arkansas.

I have been to Gee and Dee's Crystal Mine twice now. I loved it both times. The first time was in January 2012. It was cold and windy but Gee (even though he thought I was nuts) took me to the mine. I found lots of beautiful crystals. The second time I went was in May 2012. Gee again took me and a friend to the mine and set us on the path to were I had hunted before. We had a great time and found lots of crystals. Both Gee and Dee are extremely friendly and I loved visiting with them. Although, I didn't find that one hugh crystal I was hoping to find. I did find several lovely clear medium sized points and some great memories.

We had a great experience at Dee & Gee mine. The trip up to the mine was a hoot by itself. My boy and I spent several hours digging and took a load of stone out. We found some really good clusters. I would highly recomd Dee & Gee mine to anyone interested in digging for their own crystals.Clay & Chantz

Love this digging. Mrs Dee, took us to the crystal mine they have, she was a hoot... WE dug for crystals for two hrs. That was plenty of time... Go dig crystal with DEE..... The fee is kind of high 20.00 pr adult. But we still had a great time.......

When you pull up to Gee and Dee's quite frankly, it doesn't look like much...but don't let that stop you. Now, if you are expecting to go to a mine, pay $20, and find a museum quality piece, I guarantee you will be disappointed in ANY mine you visit. However, if you want to have a genuinely fun experience, are willing to do the work, this is a great place to visit. Dee is over the top nice. She loves to give hugs and is both generous and kind. Her husband Gee is real nice too. Their two dogs are enthusiastic welcomers of all who come through the gate. Our experience started with meeting with other rockhounds at Gee and Dee's place. Dee first had us choose a nice crystal specimen for free from one of the outside tables. We then convoyed a short distance to the mine. The digging area was in a wooded area which makes for more comfortable conditions than an open pit. If you are new to digging, understand that beautiful specimens are not just lying out in the open most of the time. You have to dig to get most of your nice ones. We dug in one area and all of us found water clear points. We all left with a large ziplock bag full of crystals and Dee made the experience wonderful. You will find that some digging places are not as customer friendly, but this is a great place to go. Digging at this mine was a wonderful experience and is certainly worth doing. I highly recommend Gee and Dee's.

Always polite and informative. Fun to visit with both people. Nice digging area with crystals.

Spent all week digging crystals and some of my best finds came from Gee and Dee. Dee was wonderful as was Gee (husband). Some reviews on here are harsh of Dee and maybe that's because she is outgoing and says what is on her mind. That is not to be confused with anything less than a wonderful, talkative and friendly person who seemed to genuinely care about my family having a good time. That Can Not be said for every crystal place in Mt Ida. hint hint Ron Coleman Mining. We went digging out on the ridge per Gee's suggestion and found crystal clear points and a couple really nice large singles as well as one that will make a nice display piece. Digging was not super hard but it is not sitting on your rear going through junk already picked thrice over (Ron Coleman). My entire family had a nice time and it was easily the best value mine we went to. Go and you will have a good time-we did.

We had such a wonderful time. Gee was digging up new ground with lots of good crystals. He turned over lots of fresh, deep ground that yielded it's loot of such great crystal treasures. We appreciate Gee and Dee's experience and down home feeling. They are who they say they are. As Ms Dee states, she doesn't put on the dog for anyone. Old fashioned, good time. We loved the crystal's we found but loved Gee and Dee even more.

When I went it was nothing at all like the past reviews posted on this site. We got up to the mine and the ground had not been turned or worked in ages. Dee kept saying that we would find something if it had rained but there wasn't much there to find. I did find a couple of small broken crystals clumped in the dried mud but nothing else in the actual mining site. Dee must have said about 10 times that it hadn't rained in 28 days when anyone said they weren't finding anything. Dee seemed very concerned about keeping tabs on where everyone in the group was while at the mine. After saying we could look anywhere in the mine area, she did her best to group us up in one small area and when anyone strayed out of it, she yelled at them and tried to get them back to the middle of the "pit", which wasn't really a pit but just a hole full of dry, clumped, rock-hard mud clots. After making a huge deal about how great it was that she and her hubby built a "flush toilet" on the mine, Dee just about freaked out when one of the group went to use the bathroom. She shouted at the woman who was going toward the bathroom and told her if she was going "number one" she should just go in front of the parked cars. Pretty crude and embarrassing! The woman was pretty mortified as the group was made up of men and women, most of us strangers to one another. Dee sounds like a grandmotherly angel in many of these reviews but the day we went, she was anything but. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what, but she was not the friendly and entertaining hostess that others reported her to be. She was acting more like a prison guard and was neither friendly nor accommodating to her paying clients. After nobody in the group was finding anything after about an hour, Dee grudgingly took us all down to her "private site" which was under some trees on the steep side of a hill. I did manage to find two small crystal points at this location after about 2 hours of hard digging. Compared to the other mines we dug at, this was pretty dismal and we were disappointed, as we had been charged twenty dollars each which is the top going rate at mines around Mt. Ida. I would recommend going anywhere else to dig. I don't know what the problem was, but this was not the experience others have reviewed. I know I certainly did not find much of anything here that was worth packing out. After about 4 hours of digging, I took out a total of 2 crystals and half a dozen rocks that I thought would look good in my garden, nothing more. Not worth the money for sure. And definitely not bucket loads of crystals as some have posted.

I read the other reviews here and can't believe it. I went there and did not see one crystal on the ground in the dig site. I walked around and looked all over and couldn't see anything. I had previously been to three other mines and at both I saw crystals all over the place, small pieces lying on the ground, chunks with clusters on them. At Gee and Dee's I saw nothing. When both our group and another group were getting exhausted by digging for nothing, Dee said she would take us to her "private digging spot" where she assured us we would find more crystals. She said we weren't finding any because it hadn't rained lately. But, I saw plenty of crystals at the other mines we went to.Well, at her "private spot" we found a few sparse ones in the topsoil but we were in the trees on the side of a hill where it hadn't been dug out at all yet. It is my understanding that to find good crystals you have to go through the stuff that is dug out by a backhoe, not pick at topsoil in the woods. I felt sorry for the other two groups that came while we were there and they too, did not find hardly anything. I think Gee and Dee's used to be a good mine but it is dug out now. They aren't maintaining it or digging out new stuff and it has been filled in and picked over now. And for twenty bucks for the day you expect to come away with more than a couple of little shards in your pocket. There are better mines that charge only ten a day.

We have been to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro several times. Never found much except a sunburn and ugly rocks LOL. We decided we didn't want to look for diamonds again and wanted to do something different. We were a little skeptical when we decided to go to look for crystals. I read reviews and decided to take a chance. We decided on Gee & Dee Crystals. The drive was beautiful. I knew that even if we didn't find any crystals that it was worth it just to get away and spend time with my hubby. We pulled up to the address and were greeted with a small house, out front were tables full of crystals. Before we got out of the car Dee was coming outside. She told us that she would take us to the mine, so we jumped back in the car and followed her to the mine. It really isn't that far away (maybe a mile or two). It was hot, bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty. (I would suggest the cooler months, it would have been more pleasant) You WILL need buckets. We thought, "Oh, we won't find much, no biggy" WRONG. LOL. You will need buckets!!! You will need shovels, you don't really need gloves unless you plan on digging to China. Crystals were litterally right there on the ground. Basically you just had to bend over and get them. It's not salted, just very abundant. The hill we looked on was slightly steep so you had to hold on to the trees to avoid falling. Dee is HILARIOUS. She helps you find the crystals and gives you everything you find. She told my husband and a swear this is a quote "You are gonna poop your knickers when you've seen what I found!" The whole time she was oooing and aaaaing as she dug out crystals from the earth. (Dee is quite a character!) She is just like your grandma, and the sweetest woman. She is down to earth, and tells it like it is. We enjoyed every second with her. When we left it was like saying good bye to a good friend. Bring cold drinks and stuff to carry your loot. We had a blast and will be back. You can mine all day but we had found so much we didn't want to load our car down anymore!! (P.S. the road is a little rough going to the mine, we drove a compact car and made it ok, but it was a little harry in places) We found beautiful pieces to share with our family and friends, but more importantly had a great time and got closer as couple. : )

My husband and nine-year-old son have been to several pay-to-dig mines in the Mt. Ida area, but Gee and Dee is by far the best. We have been several times and are always greeted with true hospitality. Unlike other places which only allow digging in the tailings, Gee and Dee is a completely different experience. You will be allowed access everywhere except possibly the actual pit. It isn't hard to find more than $20 of crystals. While you are there, ask Dee about Gee's CD...he plays some of the best bluegrass I've heard, and his CD is one of our favorites!

We didn't know what to expect as my family had never done this before. We drove up to their house and Dee came out to greet us to tell us about their mine, show us some of the crystal specimens, and let us play with their dogs. We immediately knew this wasn't some commercial business, but a family operation run by Dee and Gee (husband and wife) themselves. They both jumped in their truck and drove us up to their mine. They didn't leave us, but rather got their tools and work clothes on and dug with us the entire day. After 10 minutes of working with them, it was like we were part of the family - teasing each other, sharing funny stories and having a great time finding some incredible crystals. My daughter took to Dee immediately and they were like inseperable best friends all day. The entire day they freely shared their tools and their 30 years of experiecne to ensure we had a fun time and found some awesome crystals. The end result of the day - 5 buckets full of incredible crystals, and hugs all around for Dee. We were worn out, tired, had mud all over us..and wouldn't have traded it for anything.

We have been hunting quartz crystals for many years but had never been to Gee & Dee's Quartz Mine. We went there in October 2008. The owners are wonderful people and went out of their way to be sure that we found crystals. This is a mine where you dig in the mine walls to find crystal pockets. This was a new experience for me as most of the mines only let you dig in the tailings that they have already high graded. Gee was so helpful in helping me locate a pocket and did the heavy work of removing boulders that were in the way. As an older person, I am grateful for any help I can get. Gee exposed the beginnings of a pocket, and I dug out unwanted rocks. If I could not get a rock loose, Gee loosened it with a heavy pry bar. The pocket was crystal-line, and I was able to chisel out the clusters. Gee kept the jokes coming so I was also entertained. I could not have asked for a better experience. Gee made sure that I came away with some nice clusters. He even carried a very heavy crystal-covered rock down the hill to my truck. Talk about going out of his way to be helpful! The mine has a flushing toilet and sink and was very clean. I highly recommend this mine and the wonderful hospitality the owners showed us. The fee is $20 but older people only pay $15.
