I was traveling across northern Massachusetts on my way from Concord, Massachusetts, to Brattleboro, Vermont. As this was a few hours of travel, I had really not researched sites along the way. What a grand surprise to come upon the French King Bridge! The bridge itself is quite beautiful, and there's parking at the western end so you can walk across the bridge and take photos. I was there in the fall and the foliage was beautiful; however, I think it would be spectacular any time of year! If in this part of the country, definitely budget time for a stop - you will not regret it!
Pick that perfect fall day and bring your camera. The foliage is beautiful all the way to Vermont from the bridge. Also has boat rides in the summer.
Beautiful bridge in Erving MA. Pretty high up with a beautiful view. Definitely worth a stop. There was actually a road down below and beautiful foliage. Also water .
Look for the rock on the north side - partially submerged. When the river is high you cannot see much of it. At low water in August, the rock really stands out.
Don't just drive over the bridge. Whatever the season, stop (there's parking at either end), take a short walk to the middle of the bridge, and enjoy the beautiful view. The river beneath was once the scene of logs going south. In the autumn, the scenery is breathtaking.
took a cruise today from northfield recreation area to barton cove. nice way to see the bridge and enjoy the river. saw an eagle.
It's the second highest bridge in Massachusetts I think....over the Connecticut river and the views are special. You have to cross it and park and then walk on it....I had a little vertigo but it was worth it.
Wonderful view of the Connecticut River from here. Very high up but you can get some stunning photos.
If you like views of the river and woods, this is the place to be - most everyone has their camera on tow!! Autumn, of course, is gorgeous!
