If you can climb around, get up into the big 16 inchers turret. Smells like oil and diesel, brings back memories.
This is a superbly curated attraction. Unlike many modern museums ie Imperial War Museum North (Manchester, England) it has not been dumbed down to cater for bored teenagers. The explanations are adult, informative and stimulating. I'd never been on a battleship before (and I'm pretty old) and I learned so much. The screen presentations of veterans explaining their time on board at their stations was brilliant, it reminded us that the conscript navy had such wonderfully talented people who later proved their worth in other areas of life. Will certainly visit again if in Fall River again as the giant size of the site is too much for a singe day. Also enjoyed the opportunity to clamber all over the place and really appreciate the scale of the ship. Especially liked the technical debriefing after the shelling of the French fleet in N Africa. Congrats on excellent explanations throughout. Well done.
I live in the area and have visited and enjoyed it numerous times. Other attractions include the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, a WWII USN submarine, an actual Russian small missile ship and a number of shore displays.
My husband and I and our three kids, ages, 6, 2 and 2, visited Battleship Cove on a Sunday in September, we had such a fun day! We really enjoyed exploring the ships, you can pretty much see everything and go everywhere, in fact I was amazed at some of the steep ladders, some without handrails, that we were allowed to climb. It was great, the kids loved it! Highlights were the submarine, wow what close quarters, and getting to try out the bunks on the USS Massachusetts. We brought a picnic lunch, which we enjoyed, at one of the picnic tables at the outdoor snack bar area, while watching the Pearl Harbor Experience. Overall, we spent about 4 hours there, almost saw everything, and it was a really fun, and tiring, in a good way, day!
What an honor to tour such an important ship in our naval history. you can go from top to bottom and see how the men lived and worked on this ship.
This ship is of course the favorite to see, based on the sheer size and her history at sea. there is a museum on board and also food and drink for purchase.
This was a great attraction and educational as well. Took our grandson and he loved it. I did not tell him where we were going and when we drove up and he saw the ships his eyes opened wide. I had told him this was a surprise for his Easter present. When we got out of the car he said "grandma this is much better than stickers books" which I had gotten for his little sister. We spent the day looking at the different ships and submarines. I myself never realized how big they are until you are up close and personal. My sister and her husband met us there with their great nephew and the boys had a great day. Even the "big" boys, our husbands. I could not imagine being on those submarines for any length of time like our military men were. Bless them all.
Great location, easy to find. The staff was friendly. Bring good shoes there are lots of ladders and stairs to climb while touring the ships.
Very cool being on a battleship or inside a submarine. The kids can run around and sit on every cot, seat, gunner's seat, etc. The displays are ok, a bit outdated and tired, but neat to look at. Just watch your head!
My husband and I spent the day at Battleship Cove. There was so much to do and see going through these vessels. Well worth the visit if you are able to climb down the stairs. We absolutely loved the exercise as well as the many floors and multiple rooms. Thank you to our military!
Good Location And environment, posted near the Water,I Enjoyed the Sight at the sunset. At night the Sight is Very good with the lights That decorates the Restaurant atmosphere.
In order to see and enjoy the entire ship, you will need a good day and comfortable footwear! It is an excercise going through her but, you'll not need to pack a lunch as there is an outstanding caf in the wardroom! It is also warm below decks so perhaps a light jacket you can carry below and wear above.
our family enjoyed 5 hours of touring the ship. lots of ladders and stairwells to climb. wear comfortable clothing and good shoes. the cheeseburgers we had at the mess hall were fantastic. plenty of exhibits that are fascinating.
If you appreciate the US Navy then you have to visit this museum. Great collection of ships, models, and boats. Best collection of PT Boat memorabilia anywhere. The self guided tours of the battleship, destroyer, submarine, multiple PT boats, landing craft and missile boat really brought back memories of my time in the Navy and allowed me to share my experiences with my family.
This is amazing for ages 4+ since children love to run around ships and adults would enjoy the history of the ship. You will spend about an hour here, there is also a submarine you can go on. After you can go to the park and have a picnic or relax by the bay.
