This is the first place we head to when we need something sports-related - batting gloves, roller blades, soccer cleats, baseball bags. We've never been disappointed. They carry high quality outdoor and athletic wear and we've bought most of our winter-wear here over the years. It is a local gem.
Or, just play any sport and they are there for the help. Needs clothing they are there for that too. Scouting stuff while limited is to be found. Great local spot with a personal friendly touch.
Great local store-- good quality merchandise, and I've always gotten great service. It is not a cheap discounter- go to Walmart if you want cheap, lower quality goods. I've found that while I could drive all over and find a Columbia Jacket for a few bucks cheaper, my time is worth more than that to me.
My impressions are slightly different. Having done a considerable amount of comparison shopping over the years, I can attest to the fact that the prices at Maynard Outdoor Store for most items are more than competitive. This includes shoes, jeans, winter clothes, camping gear, and brand names like North Face. Several times we've seen something at the store, checked on line, and then returned to the store to purchase from them.I've always liked the staff, and they're a lot more knowledgeable than most.Return policies are generous -- 2 weeks, but they're usually not too strict.I'm glad there's an independent store like this that continues to prosper in this area amidst the likes of impersonal department stores like Target and Wal-Mart.
If you need a swim suit, sports bra, warm jacket, or running shoes, this is not a bad place to try. They have a wide array of good quality merchandise. But don't expect pleasantness from the staff, and don't expect to find much in the way of gear - it all seems to be crowded out by the clothes. And a lot of the clothes, especially in the women's section, are not for sports activities at all (although they are pretty and good quality.) The shoe department tends to get very crowded and can be quite a hassle. If you need gear for kayaking or climbing etc. you're better off going to EMS or REI.
