As a decendant of the Mayflower and member of the society, my wife was honored to visit the home. It is beautiful and the people there were very welcoming and kind.
Stopped here with my daughter. We are Mayflower descendants, something I wanted my daughter to appreciate, so we stopped on our way to a Cape Cod vacation. As other reviewers have noted, the docents are very knowledgeable and friendly. We took the tour and enjoyed learning how the house had been modified over time. The group has done a nice job of furnishing the parts of the house according to the time in which that part was built or added on - up through an elegant Victorian period. Worth the time if you like being among antique furnishings.
The Mayflower Society House is a marvelous piece of architecture, furnished with items appropriate to it's age, and beautifully preserved. The stairway in the house is worthy of a visit all by itself! The docents are extremely well informed, and provide an excellent description of the history of the house and its owners. This is a Don't Miss!
This was so interesting. The layout of the library and the huge boat. The view from the windows were breatthtaking. Just beautiful.
You will find here all you want to know about the PIlgrims. The staff is very helpful in searching your potential Mayflower roots and will assist you in joining their Society should you qualify and desire to do so.
All of our research had already been accomplished so the library offered us nothing and the house, while mildly interesting, is not as interesting as many of the other homes we toured in the area.
A beautiful mansion that preserves this period and serves as a location for the Society. The Society has been very helpful in finding our roots and preserve the true heritage of these courageous travelers.
If you go to this house in the summer it can be very hot...but to see our history makes it all worth while...and don't forget those lovely gardens out back...beautiful
First be advised - there is no A/C here, BUT - it's definitely a tour worth taking. The home is breathtakingly beautiful. There is a bunch of history in this home and the women did a fabulous job explaining everything to us. Inexpensive.
Found records tracing my family back to the Mayflower and William Bradford. Found we were eligible for membership to the Mayflower Society.
The library and the research library is an incredible resource for genealogical research. The visit helped close the single gap in the direct line to the Mayflower. Unfortunately we could not have a copy of the data, but we have a great lead to the next step we need to take.
The House was closed but with so many Mayflower families in our ancestors we were thrilled to pay $5 to go through the treasure trove of history in the library. The woman that we spoke with asked which names we were researching and immediately showed us four or five areas and specific books to look at. It was fascinating. We were in there for hours. This was what we really wanted from Plymouth. This small building behind the big grand mansion.
We were helped by the librarian to begin our search for Mayflower ancestors. She was helpful and guided us with thoughtful ideas to work upon when we arrived home.
I visited the Mayflower Society Library several times. The librarian was extremely helpful. They have some wonderful resources available to learn about the Pilgrims, your ancestors in the area, and the general area itself. I would highly recommend it as a stop for anyone visiting the area.
A jewel in Plymouth, beautifully maintained and furnished with many of the items of the Pilgrims. The Mayflower Descendants should be very proud of this beautiful eighteenth century museum.
