We're always looking around for local theater rather than going into boston all the time and found this theater company this year. They were great! Saw The Cottage which was an English farce. And it was just too funny and very, very well acted. You would have thought that you were watching a Boston or Broadway production! We will definitely be coming back for more next year. Highly recommended!
If you enjoy good acting and thoughtful stories where the audience is close to the performers, this theatre company in Plymouth MA is tops! Highly recommended. Went twice this season and would happily go again.
I have seen this group perform every year in Plymouth. I am constantly checking out theatre scenes wherever I go. The quality of the acting talent in this group rivals that of any city theatre. It's a small venue, so every seat has a great view, you're really in the middle of the action. If you're in Plymouth when they make their rounds, don't miss it.
We must like it because we go to all their productions and enjoy them a LOT. The sets are great and the actors are wonderful all in a small venue that makes it very personal feeling. We recommend it!
Based on excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, we attended a play. This was a wonderful evening of theater with some earnest performances by the actors. Far, far better than the amateurish productions in many tourist locales. Much closer to genuine high quality summer stock. Well worth it.
Very professional theatre. All seats have excellent views. It will be nice when the productions become year round. During the intermission enjoy the great artwork that's the Plymouth Center for the Arts. Staff at Center are very friendly.
I had a blast! My father took me and we had such a great time I can't wait to go back! I highly recommend it!
Americana has mastered the art of story-telling through theater. "The Cottage" is a gas; "Moonlight and Magnolias" is nutty and thought-provoking. We have seen the two shows on consecutive nights and have been delighted with each. We plan to see "Moonlight and Magnolias" again tomorrow evening. Production values are high, the venue is intimate, the acting is first rate. Combined, these make for a wonderful evening's entertainment.
very intimate setting . Actors were very very good. Went with a friend to see The Cottage. very enjoyable and funny. Love the small theatre atmosphere . Great night out many nice restaurants with in walking distance. Will be going to see another production in the next week or two. Very much enjoyed the evening.
Plymouth is host to the Americana Theater Company. We have enjoyed their quality performances in the past and continue to do so this summer. The actors are professional with resumes that include the New York, D.C. and Boston stages, to name a few. The venue, however, is unique. The performances take place in a room of the old Plymouth Public Library on North Street in downtown Plymouth. The room is small and you could literally touch an actor. There is seating for 50 people. Unfortunately the night we were there there were only 14 in the audience, perhaps due to it being a Sunday evening. The actors, and production staff, produce a quality play and the tickets are only $25! During intermission there is complimentary wine, water and snack. We would encourage all to check out this theater company...you are in for a treat! Don't miss it!
I attended both "The Cottage" and "Moonlight and Magnolias" this weekend. The acting was excellent and the shows hilarious! I was so impressed with my experience -- from walking in to the final bow, Americana is pure magic.
We saw the comedy "The Cottage" put on by the Americana Theatre Company on July 12th. It was superbly acted and absolutely hysterical! It is showing every Thursday and Saturday evening throughout the month of July. If you are in Plymouth, MA you definitely want to make sure you see it. You will have a very enjoyable evening. :)
My husband, adult daughter, and I had the pleasure of seeing The Cottage performed this Saturday night, July 12th by the Americana Theater Co. in Plymouth. We were in town for a family wedding and booked this online based on the reviews from Tripadvisor. A pleasant evening was had by all. The artistic director timed the performance so that the intermission of the performance and the fireworks display of the delayed 4th of July festivities could be enjoyed by everyone. The theatre is an intimate experience as there were about 35 people in attendance so we were literally in the living room of the set. The romantic comedy was entertaining and well acted. Thank you for such an enjoyable evening. If you are in Plymouth this is a must see but they are only there for July!
What a wonderful surprise. Attended the Americana Theatre Company's rendition of "The Cottage", a wonderfully hysterical comedy. It takes place in a family cottage in the English countryside circa mid 1920's. Jennifer Martin was fabulous as Sylvia, Wade Dunham as her husband(Marjorie's lover) Clark, Grafton Doyle as Beau (Sylvia's lover)' Brandy Caldwell as Beau's very pregnant wife (Clark's baby), Bethany Lauren James as the hysterically funny ex-prostitute Diedre (another one of Beau's lovers), and Jesse Sullivan as William/Richard (Diedre's recently divorced husband. This play takes many, many twists and turns and is extraordinarily funny. The cast was perfect though with the thick English accents I wish they had spoken a little slower but even so, you get the gist of the dialog. Will attend more of these Americana Theatre Company's plays. Well worth the price of a ticket.
I attended the opening of "The Cottage" performed by the Americana Theatre Co. Saturday, July 5th. The setting of the stage puts you right in the "living room" of this charming English Cottage... the scene of a triumvirate of romantic dalliances which leads to "awkward" situations.... I couldn't help feeling the comedic tension in the room... And the witty discourse and proper English manners... made for chuckles throughout the play. The cast really get into character and pull you into the action! First class entertainment!A great take to escape the hot, humid evenings... right in downtown Plymouth!
