This was actually at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club, not the OC Golf and Yacht Club. Wedding reception and party in the new facilty was awesome.
This was a very good golf course for all levels and priced reasonable. The one comment I would have is that of you want to play around the water, play the Newport course not the seaside. We were hoping to have water views but the seaside course has none.
The staff was friendly, the course was in great shape and the price was fantastic. We felt like we were members of a country club. While it was busy, it is easy to see why. Both courses were pretty busy, but the rangers did what they could to help move play along, and were very friendly with advice about the course. I can't wait to play here again next year! If you are going to play golf in Ocean City and desire the full experience, you have to play at the Ocean City Golf Club.
played Newport Bay on Saturday and had reservations for Seaside on Sunday. Newport must have been under water based upon the condition of the grass. Cards didn't match the hole monuments from yardage standpoint ; no diagram of the holes on the cards or monuments so if you are playing for the first time you have no idea where the holes were going or what was out there.Couple that with unfriendly personnel to deal with and that resulted in a long not very pleasant 18 holes - we cancelled our Sunday tee time and played the Bay Club West course with its friendly staff and more than adequate facilities.Won't ever return !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Played the Newport Bay course this weekend and was very disappointed. Course was in very bad shape, overbooked, and rangers pushing play to a ridiculous point. The fairways were awful, looked as if they are only minimally maintained. The staff was ok, the guys who loaded and unloaded the carts did a nice job considering the amount of people that were backed up. Course needs to be really overhauled if they want to keep charging the upper tier greens fees they get to play this poorly maintained 18
Played Newport Bay course with 11 other players over Easter weekend. Despite the rough winter experienced down in the Delmarva region, the conditions were very poor. It appears that management has kind of given up on maintaining this course properly. The fairways were an embarrassment. The rough is very patchy and gives the course a dreadful appearance. The greens looked awful, but actually putted fairly true. The staff was reasonably friendly and I have to give the starter credit. My group was kind of disorganized and a few guys were carrying "heavy bags". He respectfully reminded them of the "no cooler, no byob" policy at the course. You can purchase beer and food at the clubhouse or the cart girl if needed, but you cannot bring your own. Fair enough. Overall, I think the layout of the course is pretty nice. If kept in perfect condition, the course is worth as much as $75 on Holidays and Weekends. In its current condition, anything more than half that price is highway robbery. To be honest, Ocean City as a destination has really taken major steps backward in recent years, with very little retreat in pricing. Lighthouse Sound, Rum Pointe, River Run, Eagle's Landing, Bayside, The Bay Club. They have all kept pricing high, but have reduced staff and spent very little to keep their courses looking nice. Drive past Ocean City and head down to Williamsburg, VA for a better, less expensive and friendlier option.
Played the Newport bay course, which was in Great shape, with some great views scenic layouts. They had just had a lot of rain, which meant cart path only, which was a drag. Most unfriendly staff from cart drop to pro shop staff, to starter I've experienced in OC.
Played Newport and front nine of seaside course. the seaside course seemed much nicer on terms of layout and maintenance
Just came back from our annual golf trip to Ocean City md and thought I would write a review of this course as the experience was less than expected. Have played almost all of the courses in this region except for this one. This trip we played Rum Pointe and Bear Trap dunes before OCGC and those were in great shape. We played the Seaside course here and it was just not a nice track. There is no other way to explain it. Starting from the time you get to the course this whole experience was not up to par. The signage on the road is tattered and old. Clubhouse is just average and dated. Staff is not welcoming or knowledgeable. Bag drop had no staff there when we arrived and we had no idea where to go. They have a grass range which was nice actually but you hit over water which is just silly from a financial perspective as a golf course manager. Can you imagine how much they spend on replacing all those lost balls in the water?? Honestly, the range was the best part of this course. The tee boxes were beat up, greens were bumpy, Dog legs on almost every hole (outside of par 3s) which made the layout not enjoyable. And when I say dog legs I mean SHARP dog legs. So, optimum shots have you hitting over the break in the fairway or cutting it or drawing it, which, for any golfer is difficult. I hit a lot of the fairways as an 11 handicap and a decent driver of the ball but if you're having an off day off the tee it will make your rd even less enjoyable. I guess thats true for all courses but this one just didn't have any purpose for the layout. It wasn't a smart layout or interesting. It was just how can we get another 18 out of this land. Given all of the really nice courses in this area, I wouldn't play this course ever again. And I never say never about anything. Its not even worth the $50 twilight rate. Now, the newish Newport Bay track, is the other 18 they have and its a little nicer with some bay views. But its not close to being a superior track like they make it out to be. I would say skip this place all together if you're planning a golf trip and want to play some nice courses. Its not worth the money and the experience is dismal at best. If you're just beginning or learning how to play, this place may be good for you. But, if you're a decent golfer and play decent courses regularly, you WILL, I repeat WILL be disappointed in this course and the experience you'll receive for your money. Rum Pointe, Bear Trap Dunes, Glen Riddle, Lighthouse, Bayside, Eagles Landing, Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club should all be in your regular rotation as top tier courses in the area. Ocean City Golf Club should be left out. I hate to write bad reviews but this one deserved it.
In an area with some outstanding courses OCGC is not one of them. I've played worst but not many and I've been treated worst but not very often. Don t count on anyone helping you at the bag drop in fact you'd be better to park and carry your clubs it's faster. Billed as a parkland setting The seaside course is nowhere near the ocean or bay and has no water to speak of. It's short with far too many sharp dog legs. No trouble to speak of the course is well suited for a beginners first round ( and that's about it). The Newport bay course has a few interesting holes but also suffers from short sharpe dog legs. Looked like they lost all their fairways although the pro (?) assured us they would be green in a week. If the fairways come in on Newport it's worth playing only if you've played all the others but don't waste you're money on seaside. There are plenty of muni's back home that are cheaper and friendlier
My golf trip consisted of Man O'War, Eagles Landing, OC Golf, and Rumpointe. Unfortunately, OCG is the one that I'll remember the most. Why? Because it was such a let down from soup to nuts. 1. Bag drop- it was the ONLY place I played where the bag boys could not be bothered to help. 2. Pro Shop- could not have been less interested in my group checking in. Nice selection, but prices were not competitive. 3. Starter/Bag Boy staff- I realize that this club is semi-private, but the overall attitude of the staff was pretentious and unfriendly. 4. Practice area- Very adequate and the putting green is VERY good. 5. Course- first off its in awful shape (the others courses were nearly meticulous). The design is very quirky with lots of sharp turns (not doglegs) and OB all over the place (simply OB, not water or environmentally sensitive areas) as the holes are too close together with not enough trees/bushes to separate them. The tee boxes were shoddy and the greens were a huge letdown after such a nice practice green. 5. On course staff- I'd like to say something about the staff, but I can't because THERE AREN'T ANY. Considering the volume of players, a Ranger was necessary, but nonexistent which caused a slow round with people jumping in at their pleasure. Poor course management. 6. The promotion of OCG as a "seaside" course is a complete misrepresentation. The course criss-crosses itself in annoying and confusing ways. There is no elevation changes or even subtle rolling of fairways. Playing OCG was like playing a bad muni. When it promotes itself as a destination course and one of OC's top courses, I guess I let my expectations get out of hand. Nonetheless, there is so much this course needs/can do to make things better. If you see it on your golf trip itinerary, you might want to push for something else.
A good place to play. Rates are reasonable (about $75 on weekends). Check for online discounts which are often available.
We played the other of their two courses this morning. The course is quite short (395 yard par 5? Really?) and varied between pretty nice and pretty bland. Lots of vicious, sharp doglegs. The staff seemed to get in the way more I'm used to.
I played this course with my two sons and a daughter-in-law in late July, 2011. We played the Newport Bay course, which is supposedly the tougher of the two courses with a great deal of water and marshland in play. We played early, 7am, and the course was damp from the morning and rain the previous two days. Still the course was in excellent shape. The holes were interesting, with a lot of variety. I don't think any of them were quirky or unfair. On the back 9, there was a stretch of about three holes near the water where the bugs were overwhelming, even with bug spray. Fortunately as we moved away from the water the bugs pretty much disappeared. I had one of my better rounds(I'm a fairly high handicap but have scored much better the last three weeks after buying new clubs) and enjoyed the course. One negative...the yardage book, which was only two dollars, wasn't very good. It was in black and white and you had to figure out the different shades of gray to determine what the hazards were. A better yardage book (or GPS on the carts, which I understand they had at one time) is needed. I played the course for $40, which was a half price deal I got from a local radio station. At that price, it was a great deal. I'm not sure I would have played it for $80.
