Play 2man shamble sponsored by Flying Dog Brewery. Beautiful course, friendly staff, hope to return.

Pork BBQ was cooked and smoked right outside the clubhouse and served juicy and fresh with onion rings and dill pickle. This was probably the best BBQ I have ever eaten in the Washington, DC area.

I've played Whiskey Creek several times and find it more enjoyable each time. The course is maintained well for a public course and the greens are large and undulating. Set in the foothills, there are marvelous elevation changes (first four holes go up-hill, #5 is a 100-foot drop downhill, etc.). Excellent Ernie Els design. Almost all tee boxes offer great views and a clear sense of the landing areas to aim for. Unless you're a relatively high handicap, I recommend playing from the back tees (at least the blues) to get the full view. The only disappointing tee box might be #13, with a blind shot where first-timers will invariably guess wrong when setting up their aiming point. Every other tee shot (and I mean EVERY other) is a blast! Stand on 18 and stare at the ruined farmhouse 250 yards out and you'll see what I mean.Clubhouse is very nice and staff are professional. The starters are friendly and very helpful. Food at the turn was pretty good "pub grub." Try the hotdogs, which are actually outstanding. A cart goes around the course, so if you need refills, they are never more than 20 minutes away. Pace of play was ... okay. They did their best to keep play moving but all it takes is one meandering group to turn this into a solid four-hour round.Four caveats: 1) The course doesn't drain all that well in places, so if you come out right after a rainstorm, you will find several of the fairways "squishy"; 2) Frederick, MD is turning into commuter hell with traffic through the roof and constant road construction. Give yourself time to get to the course and use Google Maps to find alternate ways in. If you can avoid I-270, do it! 3) This course is on old farmland. In the high summer, it can get humid and buggy - lots of gnats, horseflies, and other flying critters. Spray comes in handy; 4) At $90 during the week and $110 on weekends, it might be considered an indulgence to play too often. With the glut of decent courses, would it kill them to make it a little more affordable?

Played here recently and was awed by the course. Each hole offers a different perspective and set of challenges: play it right and you can score relatively well. Ignore the hazards and such and play at your peril. That said, this is a very fair course. It isn't cheap ($100+) but I think it is one of the nicest courses in the area. It almost seems like a private club. There are a few homes along the course, but mostly you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, playing great golf. The 18th is their signature hole with the ruins of an old home in the middle of the fairway. You have a choice: left or right. But the second shot is unbelievable: hit it short or a tough long shot over a pond to a very, very narrow green. Best play is to lay up. What a hole! The carts have GPS distance markers and even let you order a sandwich from the 9th tee to pick up before the turn!I can't wait to go back.

I have played Whiskey Creek numerous times over the years and it is in my top five in Maryland. I have done two client events and their catering is superb. All the staff is friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make your day perfect. The course is a good layout with many scenic holes. Fairways are always in good shape and the greens are fun the play. Most greens are hard and on many you have to land your ball short on the pin. Better players should consider the black tees or the blues. White tees are too short for good golfers but are plenty of golf for handicappers. Hard to find anything bad to say about this top public course in western Maryland. Try it and you will love it

Played Whiskey Creek with a group of friends this morning. We had 2 foursomes. First of all a course that charges you over $100 to play this early in the season with the aeration marks still covering the surface of every green is completely rediculous! Makes it all but impossible to read a putt. I never would have played had I known this. The course was not crowded but at the turn the ranger still felt compelled to tell us we were playing too slowly and needed us to pick up our pace. He repeated this several times. Even though no one that we could see was in front of us and the group behind us werent even on the par 5! tee boxes yet when we were already onto the next hole. Why in the hell would they need us to play faster when no one at all is being delayed! For the money this course charges they should make every effort to make you feel welcome not rushed! The scenery on this course is beautiful and a true test of golf for anyone, but it is likely that I will never play this course again due to the treatment our group received in regards to pace of play... really was a joke. Truly dissapointed.

Played this course on a late Fall Sunday for half price. Course was in very good shape with terrific greens and nicely maintained bunkers (ask me how I know). The course is visually gorgeous and the layout is challenging yet not punishing. My only complaint would be that many of the fairways are severely undulating so you can hit what you think is a good shot only to be left with a very awkward lie. A few more times playing it and I'd know where to hit it and, more importantly, where not to hit it. Overall, I'd recommend it but that said, I am not sure I'd pay full weekend rates. Comparable to Westfields for you Virginia folks (and much closer to my house - Whiskey Creek is *way* out).

Good service and friendly staff. Food is better than most local courses and very good for outings. Great course layout.

Given that Worthington Manor is only 4 miles away, is just as good and much cheaper, WC needs to rethink its pricing.

Great layout, beautiful course, no tricked up holes, tough but fair, great shape, GPS on all the carts, friendly and abundant staff.. without a doubt, the best upscale daily fee cgol in the DC area.Alas, the only drawback is it's Frederick County, but if you are going from DC, you will be against the traffic both ways. Have fun.

We played here two days and loved it both times! The views are fantastic!! The course is in great shape and they are monitored closely for regulation play. The the stand had a great selection and you ordered from your cart in #8. The GPS was spot on and I especially loved the feature where you could could touch the screen to the location you thought you wanted to land your shot to see if the distance was correct. I enjoyed speaking with all members of the staff- very courteous group. We will be back to this course next time we are in the area.

The I-270 corridor has some excellent courses, and Whiskey Creek is one of my three favorite. I am a low-handicapper and I find it a good challenge. My wife is a beginner but it's not too hard for her. The layout is interesting and scenic. I recommend this course.

A great deal for twilight golf! Course is quite nice and professionally maintained. We were behind some slow people, the ranger helped keep them moving and when that failed, led us to the next open hole. At the turn he even bought us a beer! A nice way to spend an afternoon!

This course is a nice track located in the rolling hills of Maryland. THis place should rate higher, but on my last couple of visits the greens were in terrible condition.

Rolling course that has a few goofy holes due to elevation changes. Good course with usually very good conditions. I love 18 and have hit that stonehouse a few times. Well done clubhouse and the friendliest bar/food staff in the area.
