What I loved about this park was it's various courses. I am an adrenaline rushie, so I was able to hit the expert courses which were higher and more challenging. My other family members who aren't quite so daring were able to stay on the beginner courses. Because I had to conquer both double diamond courses, I came back a second time. They give you good instructions and make you do a few easier courses first before you advance, but that is about mastering the safety procedures so you can focus on the puzzle of how to get from tree to tree. The higher the level of the course (beginner, advanced, black diamond, and double black diamond) the more challenging it is to figure out how to get from tree to tree. They are very creative obstacles. It's different between each tree to tree journey. I would do it again in a heart beat!
This is an amazing ropes course with zip lines, rope obstacles and wood platforms for all levels (super easy for 5 & 6 year olds; easy for 7 to 70 year olds; intermediate; hard and super duper difficult). Everyone wears a harness and the safety locks prevent anyone from falling. We've been many times with both friends and kids. They also have a separate section for private events like birthday parties. The staff is extremely helpful and informative if you find yourself stuck. Their gift certificates are a great idea for tweens and teenagers!! If you aren't interested in trying it, they have paths and benches so you can watch all the action above you.
We planned a trip to The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring as a team building outing for our office. What a perfect choice! We had a few in the group who were afraid of heights, and wouldn't you know they ended up giving it a try and loved it! Seeing the team encourage one another, talk each other through the tough spots, share laughs and just enjoy one another's company was just plain awesome. The park itself was beautiful (fall foliage = wow!), and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful to boot. We'll definitely be coming back!
Our girls had a terrific time! What a wonderful activity for our scout troop, and as we were on the driveway out the girls were asking when we can return. I was so impressed by every staff member that we encountered. They were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Some girls chose an ambitious course and got " stuck" on an element. The staff members were coaching them with tips on how to conquer the task, with lots of " you can do it's" which was really great. Eventually all of those girls needed help getting off that course, but they have a story to tell! We had to slog through rush hour traffic and the threat of rain to get there, and I had doubts about my decision making process when we were on our way over there, but I am to glad that we showed up for an evening of challenge and fun. Well worth the admission fee, and the scout patch is really cool. I had about a million questions when we were booking, and the booking agent was very patient and helpful with all of my emails. I am personally terrified of heights and when I started the first course, I was sure that I was going to back out. By the time I got halfway through the first course I was feeling very confident and was enjoying myself, and went on to do two more courses. ( I didn't say I was fast! ) Outside food is allowed, and the local Domino's also delivers. There were water stations available to make sure everyone stays hydrated. We were there for a night climb, and it truly was magical climbing and zip lining in the dark, just guided by the Christmas lights in the trees. One of our most memorable scout outings.
Took two 11-y.o. girls here and they loved it. Could hardly drag them away. . It's a great confidence guilder for kids are not sure about heights. It's completely safe. It's impossible to move anywhere when off the ground unless you are buckled in to a safety line. There are age limits on how high into the trees you can go with the top lines being maybe 75 feet off the ground.
Encouraging your family members to spend time outside the computer game....Checked.I must say that it was a lot of fun but this place also challenges me to be in the better shape than I thought...well...required lot of arms/legs strength training before my future visit (for sure). Within 3 hours allowance, I was able to do 3 challenges. Seeing other youngsters/teenagers having fun...either it makes you feel young-er or feel old-er, you need to try and see for yourself.
This was my first time doing any activity of this sort and I can't believe I waited so long. I am rapidly approaching 60 years old (3 months away) and I was so happy to be able to do something that did not tax me too much physically but lovely surroundings and I always felt very safe and secure in the harness. The best part was that my 6 year old granddaughter had just as much fun as I did! It is a great place for a family outing and I highly recommend that everyone give it a try. I can also see this as a great choice for work related challenges, team building, or organization days.
I took my 10 year old granddaughter to Adventure Park in Sandy Spring, MD, two days in a row because she loved it so much! She - and I - climbed the trees in Monkey Grove one day, and we both climbed the Labyrinth the second day. (I need to say that she had already climbed in the trees of the major part of the park in a previous visit so we wanted to try these other attractions.AND these are less expensive and less of a time commitment.). Monkey Grove with its tree climbs was a bit humbling for both of us. Well, a little humbling for her and very humbling for me. It takes a lot of upper body strength to do it. The Labyrinth was great for both of us. However, I was very sore the next couple days, finding it hard to lift my arms! Great fun, however. Recommended.
We came here with our 6 and 9 year olds. I wasn't sure if the 6 year old would be able to handle it (spoiler alert: he did and loved it)The (young but well-trained) staff helped us into our gear, including selecting from a vat of climbing gloves. Those of the faint of heart might want to bring their own gloves but it wasn't a big deal to us. Alcohol hand sanitizer is your friend. We got here on a Saturday just before the park opened which turned out to be an excellent time. We were first in line when registration opened and breezed through to the harness/gear station. Orientation was given by a staff member who clearly knew her stuff. I was assured by the safety built in to the equipment, and the fact that staff members were all over and only a yelp away. We started on the easiest, youngest-child courses, which were still fun and a great place to practice climbing and zip-lining techniques. It wasn't too crowded and we only had to wait a few moments on the platform for other climbers to clear. I was amazed at how our 6-year old son took to the process and got it right away. It was kind of thrilling to watch him master it and to be brave enough to launch himself down the zip-line for the first time. (Not to mention myself!) He was actually sour on not being able to do the advanced courses. Truth be told, I think he could have handled it.All of us loved it. Exhilarating! The rest of us tried out the next level which was challenging in a great way and zip-lining from platform to platform was awesome. So. much. fun.The three hour ticket was a good duration - we were done by then and vowed to return again, next time with just us adults to really challenge ourselves (those ball-and-chain kids!). By the time we were done, close to noon, the place was much more crowded and there was a back-up to get in the place as all of the harnesses were being used. Go early. The place is so well-run. Can't wait to return. In fact, we are planning a work team-building group outing here in the near future.
Holy crap! I was soooo wore out from this adventure! The park is compact, but the challenges and obstacles were non-stop. Started at the bottom tier which is required by the staff regardless of ability (a good thing) the obstacles were good along with the zip lines. But, if you are looking for a better challenge and to test your capabilities go up to the next tier of obstacles. They are not easy, and will test your strength. The zip lines are much longer on the upper tiers, which is a just reward for the work you have to get to them! There is a third tier but honestly I was just too worn out to even attempt them. I will definitely be a returning customer!
We recently visited some friends in Maryland who took us to The Adventure Park. We had a BLAST! I had zip lined before and done a few things that were similar, but nothing really compares to this place. It's a giant playground. Yes, it can get crowded and backed up; however, this should not deter you. The variety of courses available ensure that a wide variety of people can go, regardless of fitness level. Don't get me wrong - having a solid core, no fear of heights, and good upper body strength WILL help you! There were people of all athletic abilities there, though. It was challenging both mentally and physically. I enjoyed each challenge and would love to return the next time I'm in the area to try more of the courses. By the way, I strongly encourage use of the climbing gloves (bringing your own might be best), as even wearing the ones provided, my hands/fingers were a little sore. Also, if you're short, it is just a little more challenging to complete some of the "elements" (obstacles).
I took my boys ages 9-16 and they all had a blast!! We did the twilight rate from 5-8 to help cut back on costs. It was not crowded and perfect for our first visit. Staff was very friendly. Can't wait to go back!
This place is amazing. I have seen rope courses before but nothing like this. It is very extensive and creative designing. We took a break from our DC vacation and drove to this place on a whim and it ended up being my families favorite thing about DC. I had myself, 5, 8 ,11 year olds and my husband. There are so many different courses that everyone was challenged. You only get 3 hours but that was enough. We went on an August Tuesday. I would advise against going on a busy day because all courses are single file and there would be a lot of waiting. I had to assist my 5 year old and she could only do the purple courses which there was only 2 so she was done in 2 hours. We did not feel like repeating a course so we sat out for an hour. She wanted to keep going but nothing left to do.-- only mild dissapointment. Everyone had a blast and we were tired after 3 hours. Staff is young but fun, professional and very helpful.
I went to the adventure park during their summer concert special event. It was night climbing and zip-lining. The debriefing was a bit of a long wait, but we managed to start out the course around 7:30pm. BTW, you will want to bring your own climbing gloves, the gloves provided by the park were all worn-out, smelly, and some of them were even wet to the touch (sweat). We did both the yellow and one of the blue courses. If you go night climbing, I would say to be very careful of mid-air collision at the zip-lining course because of bad visibility at night. The blue course has this very long zip-line and you actually can slow down quite a bit at the end. So while I was pulling myself to the other side of the zip-line (because I didn't make it to the other side), here comes this kid zip-lining towards me (he didn't see me). There was nothing I can do but swearing and praying at the same time. Thankfully, the kid saw me and was smart enough to grab onto the rope and break. I was pretty shaken by that experience, thinking about how painful it would be if we collide at such speed. So make sure you communicate with the person behind you at the zip-line course (give them a verbal "clear" signal once you landed and unhooked yourself from the obstacle). Other than that, the whole experience has been a very positive one. The blue course was very challenging and I have to conquer my irrational fear and just jump into the air. I was followed by a little kid who constantly gave me pep talk when I was overwhelmed by irrational fear. Pretty amusing.
My kids and I loved this place. Lots of routes for all levels. If you are scared of heights don't bother with this, however, there is plenty of fun. 3 hours of climbing wasn't nearly enough but we were tired afterwards. Plenty of shade since its in the trees but still hot in the summer. I would definitely reserve your tickets online before going if possible. I didn't and a summer camp showed up making us have to wait. However, I'm not sure it would have been much fun climbing with the summer camp since its not fun to wait on the platforms for people to get through the course. The staff is very quick to help and does a great job of talking guests through trouble spots. I highly recommend this adventure.
