I went expecting a run down selection of post-war Americana and was astonished to find an international collection of immaculate and significant cars from 1904 onwards beautifully presented in a setting made up of four large winery barns. Well worth a visit if you appreciate quality cars.

my husband will visit this place every time we visit Cape Town if he could. I love how you can go through the museum at your own pace and marvel at the wonderful classics on display.

This purpose built museum was quite difficult to find but we are so pleased we made the effort to look for it. One doesn't need long ( an hour is enough) to go through the 3 halls and it is an excellent stop before or after going to the Wine Estates of either or both of Stellenbosch and Franschoek .The Pierneef Station panels gives one an extraordinary insight into the artist and the collections of other well known artists make it a worthwhile trip.I was blown away by the amazing bronze sculptures of Anton van Wough

If you like cars this is a must see! The display is fantastic and you will see form old to new. The collection is much bigger than what is on display and therefore the cars on display change regularly. You can also do some wine tasting whilst you visit the museum.

What a surprise, went as we had some time to spare but ended really enjoying ourselves , such a lovely setting

Its worth going if you have some time on your hands. It is mostly tapestries and art by Pierneef, a well known South African artist.

Four large hangers full of beautifully kept cars to drool over. From early motors to state-of-the-art supercars all lovingly displayed in atmospheric surroundings. There are many more cars in storage so exhibits are rotated in case you go back. And you will!

A really good selection of art, with some dedicated sections for influential South African artists such as Pierneef, Irma Stern etc.

So much more to this art museum than we expected but the absolute highlight is the collection of paintings done for the Johannesburg central station by Pierneef. They catch the colours and sites of SA so well, we've now been to them twice, bought the tiny book and will return whenever we can. Pierneef

this attraction is hidden away down the dorp street link between the r44 and r301. its worth going to see. housed in a modern, purpose built building the collection is absolutely fabulous - with sculptures ranging from rodin s the kiss - just sitting there in open view - to more modern but just as interesting modern south african work. there must be 15 or so irma stern s - the pre eminent south african painter of her generation; many other modern painters, a special exhibition of the johannesburg railway panels (pieneef s work) and much else. if there is a gripe it s that they could have produced a fully descriptive catalogue - each work has it s own small description but more information would have been helpful. the gallery was virtually empty when we were there - it deserves to be crammed as much as a florentine museum. well done the ruperts!!

The Pierneef paintings which used to be in the Johannesburg Train Station are being housed here - and are a real treat. There are also multiple exceptional Anton van Wouw sculptures and a large collection of Irma Stern paintings.

This modern art museum is worth a visit for anyone who wants the views of a number of South African artists on this beatiful country full of contrasts. Especially the Pierneef exhibition is excellent. This artist depicts many different landscapes and industrial scenes with beautiful simplicity.

This museum is a hidden jewel. We visit it every year. The artworks are broadly representative of some of South Africa's finest artists and it's truly a fabulous collection.

The Rupert museum shows a private collection of contemporary art, mainly by South-African artists. The museum is a hidden gem in the vineyards near the centre of Stellenbosch. An unexpected surprise was the collection of Irma Stern ( 1894-1966 ) paintings.Born South-African she got her training in Germany and was influenced by the German expressionist painters of the early 20th century. Extensive travels in Africa resulted in a multicultural interest and artistic creativity. Explosions of colour.A very small entrance fee should not prevent you from visiting this museum
