Great little temple complex now on an island after being moved due to the Aswan Dam. The boat trip across to the temple is brief but the landing jetty is quite small and badly organised. It was fairly quiet when we went but judging by the huge numbers of boats laid-up, it must have been very busy at one time and I wouldn't have fancied visiting the temple then. A qualified Egyptologist guide is essential because like most of these attractions, little or no information is provided for the lone tourist. The temple has some lovely carvings although many have been damaged in the past by Coptic Christians. Really enjoyed the visit here. Street vendors were a nuisance around where you board the boat but there were also several craft sellers that didn't pester at all.

The boat trip to the temple was itself enjoyable & very entertaining, with 'SWIMMER-SELLERS' swimming upto the boat offerring items for sale or singing for a tip.Once we arrived, we were greeted with by a small number of market traders that were NOT too pushy, so we could browse with ease. The temple tour was very interesting (We cheated by following another random paid guide to evesdrop on the rich history). After relaxing in the coffee shop area with luxury ice cream, we felt very satisfied with the entire trip & LOOKED FORWARD to the water entertainments by the 'Swimmers' and returned with fond memories of the day.

when you go to this temple you will have nice view of Aswan dam in back and rocky outcrops all over. This temple is quiet and simple which can be approached within 30 minutes from the city. You must visit before 1600 hrs and can couple high dam visit with this but all before 1700 hrs. There is fees for this temple and you have to pay separately to the boat people

Very nice architecture, beautiful temple! Must must see! Suggest you take a good guide who can also help you to connect the dots!

The site was interesting (albeit with absolutely no information posted whatsoever, so take a guide or printouts with you if you want any idea what you're seeing whatsoever), and fairly large. However, because everyone has to take a boat here (and good luck trying to share with anyone, especially if they're Egyptian, because the boatmen try not to allow it as it makes it harder to overcharge you), there were a lot of people there at the same time. Your boatman will only let you have an hour here, but that should be enough time for you to see the highlights. One thing that did make us happy was how many Egyptians were here seeing their heritage - there were 2 large schoolgroups of teenaged girls, as well as a few other groups of young people.

While some people might not like what has happened to the temple, I thought it was neat to see the coptic carvings. Able to take pictures at the whole site. I liked seeing and interacting with the Nubian people. They also have great stuff for low prices. I wish our tour guide had given us longer to shop. Taking a boat to and from the island is quite the experience.

Temple of philae is a temple of goddess Isis-Goddess of health marriage and wisdom in the island of agilika which has been shifted from island of philae as it was frequently flooded since the Old Aswan Dam construction and presently the island of philae is completely submerged under Lake Nasser. The boat ride to the temple is itself magical due to the scenery and the temple is very calm and peaceful and depicts bona fide ancient Egyptian architecture which is love at first sight although some parts of the temple is disintegrated due to time and the shift. The temple is worth a visit for regaining peace and calm and make sure to take a lot of pictures!!

The temple is situated on an island so you take a nice boat trip to get there. It is well preserved and not as huge and monumental as for example Karnak, but that makes it so charming to visit. Best time is late afternoon to take great photos.

The temple of Philae is a place I visit every time I am in Aswan. It is a beautiful and historic reminder that the ancient Egyptians worshipped goddesses as well as gods. Philae is usually uncrowded and serene, a wonderful place to spend an unhurried afternoon. Go there and worship the Goddess!

The beauty of nature with the Nile flowing through the granite islands providing next to nothing experience. Greek , Roman & pharonic temples in one place....history of civilisation

A huge step back in time as you visit this Temple on its own island in the Nile.We visited this during a cruise down the Nile over 10 years ago and it was a wonderful live history lesson. Not as busy as some of the other temples down the Nile and lovely to wander round at ease and soak up the atmosphere.

It was a wonderful nightly experience in the temple with sound and light. But we made a wrong mistake choosing the french version with english translation on headphones. With an English version it would have been just perfect.

I really liked this temple because unlike many other places, this one had very few tourists. We were able to wander around and take our time without having to fight through the crowds and that made it a WAY more enjoyable experience than some of the bigger places like Edfu.
