the walk down and up the many steps named Swallow trail is much sheltered by trees and not much views, good exercise in the forest though.
the big platform in the taroko park. there laies the leader villages, they have wonderful hotel and traditional dancing show for visitors. it's worth coming here!!
This place is mostly same like taroko gorge, but small in size. Unlike taroko gorge, here anyone can go down and touch the clear water. Mostly would look alike a small replica of taroko gorge. Only 600 peoples are permitted to visit this place in a day. So make sure you have reserved your visit earlier, especially in the weekend days.
You will need a permit to enter as they limit the number of visitors. You will definitely need a guide, we hired a cab driver for the day. Without a guide, i think you will miss a lot of spots and may get lost. The view is nice. We went to play in the stream and it's cold. Bring food for the fishes, my child love it as they will swim by your feet.
Our family of 2 adults and 2 children below ten booked a cab to drive us into the Valley. It cost us NTD 3500 for a whole day tour, but it was worth it. The driver did all the paper work getting the permit into the valley and told us the history of the original inhabitants of the valley. He told us of how these original inhabitants lived, the meaning of the tattoos on their faces and introduced us to their foods. We also went down to the river where my children tried to catch fish and tadpoles.
You need a permit to go the 10 km up in the gorge. There is a limit on 300 per day. First you get the permit at the police station on the way in - a bit futher up you deliver the permit at a check point. Enjoy the view and find a place there you can climb down to the river - plenty of places where you can take a swim.
If you want some adventure, go to this valley. Only 600 tourists a day are allowed. Go to the police station to register and give your form at the gate (no fee?!). The road is small and lonely planet has good directions (don't go over the red bridge - good picture point -, but continue on the left bank of the river). There are some stops along the road, the one after the second part of 'shops/restaurants' will lead to a amazingly blue pool with giant rocks surrounding it. After that road continues, but we turned around when there were too many rock/mud etc on the road. In high season it will problably see more people than we saw on our visit.
