This park is just at the junction going to Tikal, Flores and Guatemala. The bungalows and rooms are basic, but comfortable (only the new bungalows have AC), and the camping area is very nice and secure. The staff is very accommodating and, within reason, they will drive you to Flores or Santa Elena (there is nothing else nearby... bear this in mind since, once the kitchen closes after dinner, there is no other way of getting any food. My tip: buy something at the local supermarket for evening munchies). If you like this sort of thing, be sure to contract the "s'mores" bonfire package. The other activities are good, and the facilities are well kept. If your kids want to ride horses, know they are well-trained and always accompanied by a guide. If you don't have to go somewhere early, I also recommend the midnight jungle exploration. Don't expect to see exotic animals, but you're sure to catch a glimpse of a different kind of wild nightlife. The only thing that is sorely missing is a pool, for Peten's hot days.
This is a great parkt. good location close to Tikal National Park and Yaxha Park, both important Mayan sites on Northern Guatemala. They have some nice cabins but also good camping sites. You can bring your tent or ther will rent you one.I really love their canopy system. 4 routes, very high, fast, great views! and also, exciting hanging bridges. Great places to disconect yourself from the noisy civilization.
We just took the skyway trail. It started well with a clear trail with beautiful rope bridges. You reach the top of the trees and can watch monkeys in action. We got a map of the trail which looked simple. The problem started when we crossed the last bridge after the view point which is not so attractive. The map shows a junction of two ways but the actual were three ways. Along ALL the trail there is not even one sign to help with direction. So we of course chose the wrong way and after sharp decent found ourselves in a middle of jungle. I hope the authorities will put signs to help visitors complete easily the trail.
Looking at this from a backpacker perspective, this was a rather expensive excursion that was fun but nothing special. We did the zip lining activity and they charged 125Q each (they tried to charge more but we talked them down), then made us wait 40 minutes until more people arrived to take us out to do it. It was fun, and we felt very safe, but over pretty quickly (about 20 minutes). Overall, a fun activity but nothing amazing.
Had an amazing time with the family. There's trails, hiking, rope bridges, zip lining and horse back riding. We did all and in one day and had a wonderful time.Wouldn't recommend it with young kids though, trails are difficult and it can get very hot. There's no restaurant just a small cafeteria that offers a small menu. Bring lots of water and sun block.
Was a nice safe tour with good views. We had rain but it did not dampen our day. I would not spend the day, but make it part of an outing.
We spent a few fun hours hiking the park and traversing the hanging bridges. Besides being a lot of fun, some of the bridges offer amazing views of the landscape. There are lots of monkeys and birds to watch as well.If you contact them, they will pick up from your hotel in Flores and bring you back, free of charge.
It is probably worth visiting Ixpanpajul for the zip lines but not for the skywalk alone. It was a two hour walk through jungle crossing by suspension bridges but we were disappointed as we saw very few birds, no flowers or animals. It was a very expensive way to spend an afternoon particularly as we paid for a taxi from Flores.
I visited the park to walk the skywalk. It was beautiful, but a little disappointing. I was hoping to see some birds, and I saw a few. I felt like it was a hit expensive for what it was. It is probably a great activity if you have kids. The bridges are pretty impressive. They do pick you up in Flores and bring you back, which I appreciated.
This is a wonderful place to visit - we did the canopy walk as well as the zip line trip. The forest is beautiful here and we just spent a very relaxing time walking very slowly and savouring the atmosphere and beauty. The canopy walk paths are well maintained and it is not a difficult walk. The zip lining was fun and also well organised. The only down side was that they should probably put a limit on the number of people doing the zip lining - it was a little crowded at times huddled on the platforms.
Ixpanpajul is a great way of having fun healthy style! There are plenty of activities to spend a day with the family of group. It has some nice walking trails, canopy, horses, restaurant, bathrooms, etc. Is about a 10 minute drive from the Isla de Flores.
I was a bit surprised at skywalk tour!!! We were given a map and some advice that we needed to take water and then we were let loose! The hike was pretty tough for my 56 year old body! The bridges seemed safe, and the views astounding! I'm glad we chose to go in the morning because of the heat. We saw many birds, insects and some snakes, but the howler monkeys that appeared over our heads really caught our attention!! At the halfway point, there is a place with hammocks where we got some more water. Very refreshing and relaxing. I would definitely do it again. It was a decent workout for me and I made it through without stopping (other than at the halfway station.) From there on, the hike was mostly downhill. We also took a short horseback ride. They asked if I had ever ridden before, I had not, but they didn't offer me any advice or anything. My feet didn't fit in the stirrups (i'm very short), and the guide had to tether my horse to his to get mine to follow. It was mostly uncomfortable. However, the guides were EXTREMELY helpful for the zip-lining (they call it tarzan..something), and that was a great deal of fun! As I said, I would do it all again, but maybe do myself and the horse a favor and skip that part. If the guides were more informative and educational, I would rate it excellent. I realize there is a bit of a language barrier, but my daughter is fluent in Spanish and the guides did speak some english so I feel a greater effort could have been made on their part.
I did the skyway walk with the hanging bridges. The park was totally empty except for me. The views from the bridges were amazing and I saw many beautiful birds and also spider monkeys. It was a lovely place to visit. If you call them they will pick you up and take you back to your hotel in Flores.
This place is great, you can spend days having fun! It´s beautiful and the owners are super nice.Great option for the X-treme and chilled back tourists. Close to the central area but far enough to be able to enjoy true nature ;)Enjoy!
Great adventure of ziplining through the forest, hanging bridges and trails. We had a lot of fun and is really close to the island of Flores, about 20 minute drive. A good idea to go with friends, family or couple. The park is clean, bathrooms and restaurant are available. Make sure you bring some water, the trails uphill can make you sweat a little. Loved the nice ranch with hammocks on the hill and rest area at the entrance.
