Just over the bridge on the other side. Most of the people shopping, and a fair number of the vendors, were non-Panamanians. Lots of food and food products for sale along with the usual assortment of touristy items. Bought a 5 pack of assorted Panamanian cigars as a gift for $10. Didn't see anything that exciting. Place to meet people if you're so inclined.
The Tuesday market has over 30 stands under cover that have a wide variety of products. Every where from local coffee, honey, flowers, baked goods, meats & vegetables, to real estate. The sellers are pleasant to deal with. Most of them speak English. The market runs until noon.
The Tuesday market at BCP has a great variety of items to browse, sample, and purchase. But that is not all, and may not be the main purpose. It is a place to visit with others, finding and making friends, and getting information on what is going on in the community. There is usually a very good presentation by a helpful local speaker on topics and needs of the community. A large percentage of the people are english speaking, but there are local panamanians there as well. A great melting pot!
Having been a vendor for more then 2 years we have seen the changes and fluctuation that have formed the now fun and exciting Tuesday Morning Market.Every week brings new faces and familiar faces. If you need a breather from using Spanish, this is the place. You hear English, Italian, German and sometimes Russian. This is also a place to support local Panamanian artists and purchase gifts for your return to you home country.Sit in on the weekly meeting if it's a subject your interested in, your $1 donation may well pay for it's self. It's a nice way to spend an hour or 2 when you come to Boquete.
This market is well worth the time to visit. Lots to see and great variety. The only downside is the dirty side streets downtown and the unforgiving cold wind that blows through this valley constantly during the many times we've visited in Jan/Feb. We could never live there because it is too cold and too windy. It is quite picturesque though.
Yes, It is very pleasant for several reasons, first you could buy very unique handcrafts, from food to jewerly, also books for children and others at reasonable prices made by local residents, the majority of then persons that took de decisión to move to Boquete from their homeland countries, of course there also native people too. Nice place also to mingle with visitors and artists.
I love this place. It is our second time to visit. It has a lot of nice items and nice people. You must go here if you go to town on Tuesday.
If you are visiting or are new to Boquete this is a great place to meet friendly neighbours and to get information about what is going on. They have great lectures at 10:30 AM Tuesdays on topics of interest to the expat community. Lots of market goods for sale too.
Fun to visit to see all of the handmade/homemade goods and foods! Good place to meet locals. Not the best selection of molas if that is what you're looking for.
First, realize that this Tuesday Market would not exist were it not for expats who visualized the empty buildings as something in need of use! It was no small task. Yes, there are many expats and they are lots of fun. The MOST fun I had in my two visits were local vendors. One was a darling Ngöbe-Buglé girl of maybe 10 years. She could about 'charm the horns off a billy goat', as my daddy used to say. Her family was selling flowers, mostly orchids I think, at the gate into the market. I was leaving and 'empty handed'. Something THIS child could 'alter'. She could 'fix' empty handed!! She began with the larger plants. No, no, I protested, 'no casa aquí'. Not to be deterred, 'little Lola', my name for her, proceeded to entice me with at least six other orchids each smaller than the last. finally seeing that she was not going to make a sale, she very nicely said, "Tiene un buén Diá" with a smile. The next time we returned to the market, she was not there. I Could not have resisted her a second time! My next favorite vendor had jewelry just inside the gate. He makes the setting or maybe just sets the stones himself. He was also a charmer and I have a nice little pinkie ring which I do not need, but certainly had fun buying. We had wondered what happened to Bernard's restaurants in David. Bernard is now at the Tuesday Market sometimes. He had a tasty Thai soup one day and some delicious (5,000 calorie) organic coconut mousse that was 'to die for'. He is opening a small restaurant near Hooked On Panama fishing, past Puerto Armuelles. We bought hot sauce from him and hope we can visit him in his new restaurant or at the market again soon.
We attend this event nearly every Tuesday morning, even though we live in David, apx 30 miles North of us. We shop for our fresh veggies, baked goods, patio eggs, have our kitchen knives sharpened, buy used books & DVD's, visit with other X-pats in the area, then depending on the subject, sit in on that days presentation in the air conditioned BCP Theater. It's a hi point of our week, and sometimes, either me or my wife is asked to give a presentation.Don't miss it, Gary & Jennifer
This is a nice place to have a wander and browse through stuff that you can't get in the shops around town. From jewellery to organic food, there's quite a variety of things of sale. I particularly enjoyed being able to buy some local honey and homemade cakes. It would, of course, be lovely to see a few more local traders there too.
Local's offer a wide variety products. Everything from fresh pastries, jewelry, hats, handmade greeting cards, cigars and even the infamous Grueber's Jungle Oil. The mild temps of Boquete make this an amazing shopping experience. The locals are super friendly.
A market for gringos and nothing different. Made me realize how separate the lives of locals and American retirees are in Boquete. Go over to the produce market where the locals shop/
The Tuesday Market at the BCP Theatre has the freshest produce in Boquete. Usually there are many organic farmers, inside the market place and outside on the street. At the market you can find: homemade soap, honey, local coffee, wood work, jewelry, hard to find herbs, herbal remedies, vendors making tortillas, soups, etc. As you can see it is packed with stuff.
